Title: ST1300 Pricing
Post by: Doggie 1 on January 08, 2015, 08:15:36 PM
As a newbie here, I'm looking around at what is available at various price levels and low km ST1300A's are up there, price-wise, as per these links, which I hope work. (Sorry, I don't know know how to compact the links).
I seem to recall that when production ceased, the $25990 or so price tag for the ST1300A reduced by @ $10,000. I should have bought one then!
What are your thoughts on the values of these low km bikes, as they're not the last produced and there are some really good buys out there if you're prepared to go back a few years to some of the earlier ST1300s.
Can someone tell me please exactly when the last STs were available in Australia?
Thanks.

I think the first ST1300's were released here in 2003 and the last new ones were sold here in 2013 . . But I believe they were in fact 2010 built models. The early ones did not have the electrically adjustable windscreen . . I think that came in 2004 . . .

There are some slight changes from 2008. The easy pick is black side covers on each side. The one on the left side goes around the rear shocky adjuster. The other thing worth looking for is one with an MC Cruise control fitted, they are close to $1,000 to buy but really don't add $1,000 to the resale value.

Not sure what you are looking at there, the links won't work for me.

I suppose being in WA you're ST1300 options are limited, only three in Bikesales, unless you want to travel to the east.

Almost correct.

My ST1300 has a 2011 build on the compliance plate, first registered in August 2013.

My question is, do I call my bike a 2011 or 2013 model?  Makes a difference to me.

One of the reasons they dropped the price by $10,000 was because they were selling a stockpile of 2/3 year old bikes that had never been bought before.

I think if I was selling one later down the track, I would be saying "MY2011, first registered in 2013" and maybe explain to any potential buyers in person/phone?

Informed buyers would already be aware of the situation and more importantly mileage, condition and extras would play a part in what sort of dollars you ended up getting.

Also I believe, apart from colour, bikes from late 2008 to 2011 are pretty much the same . . Except for compliance plate . . . SAAZ will know for sure . .

It should be a 2011 model and the Honda model code 2011AB (for ABS) and "B" being the year code for 2011 if you order parts from a dealer. The compliance plate should also give you month/year of manufacture (e.g. mine has 6/99 on the plate).

Some states include year of first registration on the rego certificate but SA doesn't

The 2003 1300 had a standard screen but the electric I think was available as an option.

The 2003 1300A (ABS) had the electric screen fitted as standard

From 2004 both models had the electric screen fitted as standard

Yes, I'm sure this was a factor for the big discount.

Another factor would have the price of the Honda Goldwing F6B (GL1800B) and now the Honda Valkyrie F6C (GL1800C), which were /are approximately the same price as the ST1300. Check this:

That's a heck of a lot of Honda cc's for the money.  One of these is a new 2013 bike, perhaps Honda are having some problems moving these models now as well.

My primary reason for buying the ST1300 was for towing the Elite camper trailer.  If I could have bought a new Honda with an 1800cc flat six for $22,990 - "Ride Away No More To Pay" instead of an ST1300 for $24,690 - "plus on road costs", I probably would've.

But I didn't, and now I'm glad I didn't.
