Title: extra mirrors - who has and .......
Post by: spanner on January 09, 2015, 06:23:06 PM
Who has extra mirrors amd where did you get em from? ..... how much? And are you happy with them?

I am particularly interested in St11's but still interested in all.

I only have the stick on (to the existing mirrors) those little round (or rectangular) magnifying mirrors bought from Supacheap . . In conjunction with the standard mirrors they just give a wider view of what may be in the normal mirror blindspot.

Only wide angle mirrors fitted soon after buying the bike in 2006. They work quite well for me but most of the time I still rely on the standard 1100 mirrors.

The same on both sides and bought from one of those cheap discount stores for less than $5

Yep they are the ones . . You can experiment with the positioning to one that suits your requirements . . .

I put some adjustable ones on, a little dearer but well worth it, they just turn around until you get them in the  right position
But I put them on the inside at the top as you can see in the above photo the bars and brake levers are there so you can't
use a lot of that section anyway

I have the adjustable round one's, from Supercheap.

I find they help a lot since I have handle bar riser on.

Well worth the investment on any bike I think.

Yes mine are also the spin to adjust types and have them positioned the sames as Wild Rose, Leo . Invaluable . .

I carry a small mirror in my pocket. They don't cost much and the best thing is that they are portable between bikes.
When I need some facetime I take it out of my pocket and stare into it for a while.  :rofl

Surely you wouldn't want to do that too often . .  :runyay

I have seen some pics of STeeds with mirrors that seem to be attached either to the screen bolts or might even be stuck on but the are higher so give a better range of vision particularly when carrying wide loads.

I;m with Rosie, except I cut two circles of wood tapered the right amount to stick the non-adjustable type on.
Just be aware you can only polish them very gently to clean, as they have a very fine silvery material on a plastic base- no glass in sight.  DAMHIK.

I have these RAM mounted mirrors that greatly increase the rear vision.

I had an incident once where I had a tent strapped on the rear seat that blocked the view of the standard mirrors and an impatient nutcase in a cage nearly caused a bad accident. These mirrors have a high view due to the extended mounts. The bikes safety is definitely increased by them. Still use the standard mirrors as well, so now I have 4 peeks behind b4 changing lanes or filtering etc.

Expensive tho. Some of the RAM  mounts were on the STeed when purchased. The extensions and mirrors from memory were about $70, so to do two mirrors from scratch would b close to $200. I tried one mirror on the left first and liked it so much I bought another. BTW these mirrors are marketed as tough and breakage resistant. Also, being RAM mounted they will most likely just need realignment if some kind of dislodgement were to happen. Also makes them easy to tweak while  riding.  :thumb

I got a pair of adjustable mirrors that attach to the bar ends  as shown in the photo.
they have a detent so that if bumped they will move  (swivel around,)before being damaged. The mirror is 80 mm. dia. and are fitted by bolting into the bar ends. I had to slightly modify the attachment bolts but it was an easy fiddle.
They work very well, quality is OK. I got them because my teardrop trailer was too wide for an effective rear view using the standard bike mirrors.
These ones are easy to adjust whilst on the move.
I think that I got them from the Alibaba sellers at somewhere around the $40=00 mark with their free postage.
The took some searching to find them as i wanted the extra detent function in the adjustability , which most of the mirrors on offer did not have.

I have quick scan mirrors on my ST1300. Made by Saeng Co. They attach to the screen and are fully adjustable - great for when you raise/lower the screen. I don't know how many people have bought tnem after querying me about them, but there are a few.
They are so effective that there are literally no blind spots around the bike when combined with the standard mirrors.
Google / Bing "quick scan mirrors" for full details. I put them on when I was commuting in Melbourne daily and their value was immeasurable.
