Title: security of your STeed - GPS trackers??
Post by: spanner on January 12, 2015, 11:13:47 AM
Howdy,

Just wondering what others do for security of their STeed?

I dont have a secure place to park my girl so it will be out on the street.

I was thinking of a dyna bolted into the concrete curb with a chain and padloc system for initial deterent but then thought how to I find it again IF it gets nicked from a car park at the shops etc.

I came across one of these things and wonderd if anyone has any experience or feedback or other ideas.

i have seen a few varients of these but this seemed to get a reasonable review of the Tube of U's.

Hi Spanner, interesting thought. I had a look at the video and this product is reliant on users of the system to track your article. This may be OK in the USA where use could be high, but I wonder how many users there are in Australia.
You got my interest so I did some searching and found a product that may be more suitable.  Try this URL www.gpstrackingaustralia.com.au/product/208/ (http://www.gpstrackingaustralia.com.au/product/208/)
Also potentially found a lone worker traking device there, which is something I had been looking for, for when I'm out on the VStrom far from anywhere.
Hope this helps you.

Most of the time the bike is parked in the drive way ready to roll.

We do have some bike thefts in town but there either farm bikes or off road ones as they are lighter and easier to move than a 300kg bike.

Yeah is a bit pricey, but would give peace of mind. Guess these guys make their money from the annual fees and everything to do with professional gps tracking seems to be expensive for what it is.
My search for a reasonable price personal location system has shown this. Either the initial unit is expensive or the initial unit is not badly priced, but the annual fees are high. I guess again this relates to the size of our market.
If I find something as I search I'll let you know.

Diesel and I have one of these.  Trouble is, I never set it.
But LOUD!  Strewth, I actually hate setting it because the "Set/Unset" chirp wakes the suburb!

o:) Reasonably priced, LOW ongoing costs (I geta Telstra long life SIM for $30 that does around 3- 6 months depending on travels)
get up to 6 months historical tracks to check out, FREE online tracking, text to 3 phones if you want as well (I recommend setting the overspeed alarm way high  ;-*)
only 2 left in stock ( http://www.dmme.com.au/GPS_tracker.htm (http://www.dmme.com.au/GPS_tracker.htm) )

Hey Spanner, have a look at http://skynanny.net (http://skynanny.net)
This device uses mobile and GPS tracking. Up front cost of $195 and only $9.90 per month monitoing. Monitored by your phone and active world wide. Gets away from problem of the mobile devices when in an area without network coverage. Looks like it covers all bases for bike and rider securiry at a more reasonable price than I have seen before. Actually saw an ad for this in my health fund newsletter.
