Title: How annaly retentive are you with your STEED? How often do you wash?
Post by: spanner on January 12, 2015, 03:24:06 PM
hmmmm ......  my old bike was NEVER because the rain is enough but this one I have washed it twice already so it looks like it might be a once a month scenario.

I'll generally give it clean off every month but if the bug splatter is a bit excessive then I'll get rid of that so the screen gets done weekly.

I'm a bit slack with the wheels though, maybe twice a year apart from a good clean up at tyre changes etc.

STig gets a waterless wash the day after most rides, but then bike is not used as a daily rider.....so can be weeks between rides/washes. It's normally only after a touring trip or LD ride that the bike is washed with water etc.

Bike also gets a finish off with Formula 1 ever few washes and plastics cleaned with a meguires plastics cleaner.  ++

Usual give Ruby a touch up before an RTE for vanity sake, and like Alans1100, a de-bug if it's been through a bug storm.

As i only use my bike as a play toy not a commuter, I clean it after most rides before I tuck it away in the garden shed,
I use Turtle wax ICE detail and ocasionally use the liquid polish
Very happy with the job it does  :thumbsup

Mine serves as a daily highway commuter between trips that has it's own individual patina(read:well worn).
It only get's washed if it rains while riding or parked at work.
The windscreen motor is still inoperable after giving up the ghost at The Rock on the way back from Ballarat last year.
Lucky it's at just the right height  :crackup

I usually give it a wipe over with a slightly wet rag the following day after a ride, mainly to get the bugs off the screen and the front of the bike, then a light spray with Plexus, wheels get a wipe over every few months. Every ride I do is usually between 400-600kms so it tends to gather a few bug splatters. I've never actually washed the bike as I've never had to! :grin

I refuse to answer this question. You may apply any answer to my own hygiene. Like ride in the rain to wash bike and himself at the same time.
But basic I would like a self cleaning motorbike.

As it is often my way to work, it gets a wash every week unless it's a wet weekend

I, on the other hand, wash daily  :grin

It's a sickness I tell you....... Mine gets a tub after every ride and if it dusty prior to a ride..... I'm sure this would change dramatically if it was used as my daily commuter.

I would say at least once a fortnight simply because our road is dirt with cow shit and any traffic turns up huge amounts of dust. Both bikes are housed in my big workshop and fine steel linasher dust settles on most thing so I keep that off. They get cleaned before any long ride and within a day or so of getting home. Perhaps 4000km between washes in that scenario.

One of these bikes I bought new and often riders comment on the new bike only to discover its 6 years old and over the magic 100,000km mark.

So I think it pays off in my case.
