there has to be a secret to replacing the glass in rear view mirrors, the plastic lip is so hard it's proving impossible to fit it.
tried immersing it in boiling water, no luck.
someone out there must have done this at some time, :well what's the secret please.

thanks Abe, getting the glass and cutting to shape isn't a prob,its fitting it. the lip is so damm hard, maybe as last resort just stick it on over top of the lip,not a good look but will do the job.

Have had both mirrors replaced with standard glass by a glass company due to unfortunate incidents at various times. Had the first mirror fitted using the lip to hold it in, but it fell out some weeks later when the miror was bumped so had the glass guy cut and adhere the mirror in place. Getting used to the new flat mirrors took a little time but don't notice the difference now. Was a nightmare using one flat mirror and one convex mirror. Played havoc with my distance clearances of other vehicles. Do not reccomend riding with one of each. Have fixed small convex adjustible mirrors to allow wider viewing of who's behind me. Use't to the setup now. Will get OEM mirrors some time in the future, but ok for now. Cost $30 each to have the mirrors fitted.

Rob you have two options:-
1) Cut the glass the the internal diameter of the lip (doesn't look great) or
2) Cut the lip on the top and bottom inner side (closest to bike [right where your finger is and above]) with a razor blade or similar - heat with hot air gun - bend lip down - insert glass - heat lip again - bend up - using soldering iron, gently melt the cuts back together.
If you are careful with option 2 it will look perfect.

PS - always put some sylastic on the corners to hold it firm (not in the middle)

:bl11thanks all for the ideas, think will go with totgas,option 1, less hassels. also a suggestion to all, whilst doing this reverse the bolt,through the spring,this way you can adjust the tension on the mirror without taking the glass out, astounds me why they would do it the way they have in the first place...that's how the mirror broke,adjusting it for another rider :||||
