Post by: Tully on February 25, 2015, 08:29:18 PM
Hi all, I have a ball mount in the middle of my bars, any suggestions on the best phone holder (iPhone 4s ) for this mount
Cheers

RAM X-Grip is perhaps the best all round for all smart phones as a off the shelf option.....

I use a Lifeproof case on my iPhone and modified a Lifeproof belt holder to take a RAM mount....so now phone is clipped into holder and can remain on bars when raining due to waterproof case.  :like

Cheers

+1 on the X-Grip. You do need to keep a bit of an eye on things on bumpy bits though as i notice mine tries to sneak out sometimes.

are you sure your using it right? I have been using mine for almost 3 years now, it has never sneaked out, and shiney and I have ridden some interesting roads...

and we wont talk about Deisel's "shortcuts"

Thanks guys. Sounds like the x grip is the go. Do I just buy an adapter to go from the ball to the phone?

The x grip has a ball already fixed size"B" size. So you will need a stem to join the two ball mounts.

if you like I can post a photo for you later today

Yep. A bit hard to use it wrong. It is probably the rubber on the otter case I have being a bit loose but I did have the phone come off at around 110kph after a really jarring bit of road. Now i just keep an eye on it on bumps.

UHF

I replace the "wing nut" (that locks the RAM mount into place and replaced it with stainless steel washer and nylon lock nut).

To minimise theft, though it has not happened, yet.

Telstra shops and similar stores do sell them....however you would get a better deal on Evilbay. There is a copy of the Lifeproof case sold on ebay for less than $20 that could also be an option for you......some ppl do comment that the Lifeproof case does restrict the sound of the users voice as the case is waterproof.

The cases come with a small screw in stereo lead for the mic/spkrs to keep the waterproof ability of the case.

I use a "Iface" cover for my phone Iphone 4S (not waterproof) from evilbay:-

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/iFace-Heavy-Duty-Anti-Shock-Slim-Case-Cover-for-iPhone-5-5S-/221383228263?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item338b77fb67 (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/iFace-Heavy-Duty-Anti-Shock-Slim-Case-Cover-for-iPhone-5-5S-/221383228263?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item338b77fb67)

The "X grip" holds the phone very well, and doesn't want to move as the sides of the case are rubber as well.

Cheers for that gentleman. I would prefer a water proof case in case I got caught in an unexpected shower
