Title: Hard Arse Ride 18th/19th April
Post by: Streak on April 20, 2015, 12:03:42 PM
Over the weekend I lined up with a local riding group to do a hard arse ride, now it is no Iron Butt ride but still came with its own challenges and fun

We all lined up 5.45am on Saturday Morning at BP on Tor to have a crack at completing what’s called a Hard Arse Ride, it is 1,600km in 48 hours…. (http://www.universalshop.com.au/AussieHardarseAssociation (http://www.universalshop.com.au/AussieHardarseAssociation)) now you will all thin this is pretty easy, well it is harder than you think, as we did it as a group, had to contend with the weather, Trent even did the last day with a pillion!

Anyway back to the ride itself, we all fuelled, took our docket photos with our odometers to prove our start times,

and it was away we go…..first stop in Mundubbera which was 291km straight through, it was all pretty uneventful apart from Trent and I ducking birds, and the road being pretty rough at times, Jesse did very well on his CBR1000, as it is not built for this type of road at all!

It was a quick fuel and go, and heading to Gympie which was 250km for lunch, where we got to meet Matilda, she is a good looking kangaroo,

and also get drenched from the only downpour of the day.

After we all have refuelled it was down the highway, turned for Kilcoy for a coffee and the bakery and home via Esk-Hampton to take in some bends in the road!

821km said and done, and it was arrive home beer and bed

Alarm went off at 5.15am and apart from being a little sore I was feeling pretty good, back on the bike and meeting up with the team at BP on tor once again, although we were missing a body as Jesse we think is still stuck on his CBR in his Garage (you owe $4 now mate haha), we were all smiles (mostly) for round to, Jeremy no.2 joined us for the run.

it was a very foggy start to the day

Then it was down the range in the fog for a run of 300km to Wardell, (yes I was testing everyone’s fuel range), which apart from traffic was simply a lot of highway…..Pie fuel and a docket, back on the road, for some reason the stops today where taking a lot longer than the day before….

We then kept going down the hill to Grafton, watching all the pretty country side and roads start to turn into much more fun, it was a U-turn and up Summerland way to Kyogle for fuel and lunch, we went to the Commercial Hotel for a feed and we scored $10 steak, salad and chips so we were pretty happy with that!

Unfortunately the rain really started to fall so it made riding over Mt Lindsey which was supposed to be a highlight pretty slow, and watchful, but is still an awesome piece of road!

Our last stop was group photo and goodbyes at Allora as we all rolled over the 1,600km mark, Trent gets a special mention as he brought one of his boys and did the whole day 2UP on top of his riding on Saturday on his ZX1400

Had a big variety of bikes

So out of 8 starters, we had 1 did not finish (the bet is being doubled to $8 next time Jesse), 2 unable to start due to being sick, and 1 decided to come for a ride, we had 5 confirmed finishers and we had a great time doing it.

it is a bit of fun, and great to see quite a bit of both NSW and QLD for the weekend

Robyn and I stayed in an old Railway camp wagon which brings back a lot of memories as I have slept in them many times in the past

Wow!  Doesn't the ST make those other bikes look ugly!!?

Well done, getting those guys into the FarRide style outing.

it was actually almost harder doing this one than it was the IBA run, I am not totally sure why, but I certainly felt better at the end it than I did for this one? maybe it was the wet weather I am not sure

Added stress of feeling responsible for the other guys, and riding more challenging roads than the Pacific and Hume highways.

Nice write up.  Did you guys get the T Shirt?  Going to do my ride during the next Tas FarRide in a few weeks.  Should be fun.

It might be the distance between breaks?
On the IBA ride we were having a break every 200 km or so... or it could be just not having me carrying on in your ear ;-*
