Title: A good start, except it didn't want to start

Looks like there is an intermittent problem on my 2004 ST. It did not start and I noticed that one of the relays clicked (not sure which one) but the fuel pump did not kick in ( that makes a noticeable noise) and hence the starter motor did not engage, either. Checking battery volts is ok.

Eventually it started ( and I could hear  the fuel pump kicking in)  I tried a few times but I could not repeat the fault. Everything seems ok, but I dont trust that thing anymore. Anyone experienced something similar?

And I did not even ride my new STeed. Dissapointing indeed. But glad it did not happen anywhere bush!

Check cable to terminal connection at battery.  Check earth connections.
That's the most obvious (and probably the most common) fault when the battery is good.  Also check battery voltage while cranking- another thing that catches people out.

Have a read of this long winded thread below.....Battery CCA voltage and terminals as stated is the first and most likely point.


But mine went WAY DEEPER than that.....but a very simple and cheap fix in the end that a dealer would have charged BIG TIME and possibly still not found the problem.....Local Honda dealer told me it would be the Computer "for sure" and that's where they would start.......Changing parts until they discovered the issue......which wasn't part related, but I would still need pay for them  :eek

Guys, today I tried to replicate that intermittent fault but she started like a beauty! I just couldn't get it to misbehave. Is that  a good or bad thing? I wanna take her out for a blast but now I have no confidence in her anymore until I've replicated, identified and fixed it.
Geez, it's a bit like sleeping on the couch in your honeymoon,eh?
What would you do?

If its starting, the ride it. Worry about it if it breaks down again

I understand your hesitation wheelbarrow.

Take the thing around a few blocks or to the shops, nothing terribly far from home. Do a bit of stop starting, engine off then on after some sections.

If something is loose or on its last legs, that might be able to show it up, without you being too far from getting the bike home.
