I just had one of the new breed of scam callers. It was an automated call on a private number, with a computer voice wanting to verify my details before giving me important information. This one was supposedly Westpac. This seems to be a newer one than on Westpac's website, but can't tell as I hung up.

I don't answer any calls on my landline now; just let them go to voicemail and screen them, as 99% of calls we get now are either scammers or telemarketers. Everytime we get a call like this, it's 5 secs of life I miss out on, so I just screen everything.

thanks for the heads up Saaz

We're on the don't call register but we still get some.....
We get quite a few that ring, you answer and they hang up or they don't answer...their money spent for nothing.

I find that when you get a bogus call it's always the best time to check your smoke alarms are working.

My home phone and mobile rang at the same time a couple years ago... both calls registered as 'Overseas'
I put both phones on speaker mode, sat my mobile on the bench next to the home phone, and went for a shower.
When I returned, the phones had registered the duration of call as being 7 minutes, 40 seconds.
I wonder if they were both from the same call centre?
