hi all
total loss of headlamps However when the with or relay is grounded the headlights work Imfairly certain its the switch problem. When i ground the relay the switch still won't work. have cleaned it a best i can and put some inbox on it no go Any Advice helpful

Check that the start switch isn't stuck half way.......as you press the start the lights go out to give full power to the start circuit (might be different on police versions) and the lights come back when you release the switch but sometimes the switch gets a bit grotty inside and sticks about halfway.
The power for the light switch goes via the starter switch.
If both globes appear blown (highly rare) then it's usually a sticky start switch or fuses (on mine at least).

thanks i recently went through a lot of rainy weather the starter switch did stick but fixed with inbox now no problem but will try that again

You always say that Alan, yet the members time and time again refute that claim. Could I suggest a better comment would be "on some bikes the headlight will power down when starting"

It's a fairly common problem and the starter switch is almost certainly the culprit. Give it a squirt of CRC abd flick it a few times.
