Well, having made it back from Toowoomba, investigation of the cooling issues with STorm have revealed that the water pump apparently shouldn't have 2 to 3mm of play in the shaft. Thought I had a new one coming, but it apparently wasn't so now have to manage to organise a new one and hopefully be able to have it and all back up and running for Gular RTE in June. There is a chance that I will be without a ride for that weekend, but I will manage around it.
It seems that it has been slowly getting worse, and as well as that the radiator cap was cactus, meaning little pressurisation. Thanks to Tipsy, a new rad cap was installed in Toowoomba, and a slight seep in a hose fixed. This now meant that the system was pressurising fully and forced the issue with the water pump. On the up side, I have discovered that you can fill the radiator without removing or modifying any panels (Narrabri on the way home).
Never mind, at least I 'm getting to know the internals of an ST1100 intimately. Still an impressive piece of engineering.
Hopefully I will eventually get at least 12 months without having to touch STorm except for reg services.
STill looking optimistically ahead.
Cheers
