Well I just had my own SMIDSY moment in the car. Turning right at a T intersection, I stopped, looked left nothing, looked right car coming, let them, go look left again all clear.
Go to turn right and lucky I just idled out, out of the morning sun on the left appeared a trail bike, we both hit brakes, I waved apologies, he nodded and no harm done
But we both got a fright.
Just shows how aware you need to be even if you ride a motorcycle. ...
Stay safe people, Stay safe

I did just the same to a cycle rider only last week....just lost him in the "A" pillar.
I stoped in ample time.....but it makes you think :eek

Now you've had that experience, what could have been done to avoid the SMIDSY? So let review it.
Rider
- speed
- visual colour of jacket etc
Bike
- colour
- Lighting
Driver
- alertness
- followed road rules for entering intersection
Car
- visibility out of car
- colour of car
- speed of car
Environment
- time of day
- conditions eg day or night
- weather, eg foggy, cloudy, rain, sunshine
- astrological - position of sun eg blinded driver, obscured motorcycle
- condition of intersection eg poor design, blocking visibility, to many distractions eg to many streets for the driver to watch
These are just points to consider when reflecting on the incident and did they have any bearing on or contributing to the incident, (maybe some) (Maybe none)

Well I was awake and it was first thing in the morning, I followed all road rules to a T
Car
- visibility out of car
- colour of car

Car stood out nicely, it was silver, and it was doing about 60km/h

it was 7am in the morning, weather was clear, sun was shining in my window obscuring my vision(why I didn't rush out to turn), it was a simple T intersection

It really just proves that you and the other party can do everything right and still be just in the wrong place at the wrong time.... :think1

Other than the rider having dark clothing it seems ST2UP has said it, wrong place wrong time....
