It is a great song I could never remember who sang it though.  Amazing what can be done without screaming down a microphone and causing industrial deafness foe anyone with 2 km

I vaguely remember it. I have it plus Conquistador (I just searched PC) but other than Credence I rarely play stuff that old anymore.

Gr8 song from our youth Pete - one that featured very nice work with an "organ"!  :whistle

Made me think of another gr8 hit of the same era with a big organ featuring: "The House of the Rising Sun" - The Animals -,found this video of amazing quality 4 the time:

Pete, I remember that group Procol Harum and their song  whiter shade of pale, too! That was way before the time they created crap ... Uh I mean: rap and the other futile attempts some people call music. Good onya bringing this to the surface! Appreciated!

Both Whiter Shade of Pale and House of the Rising Sun are going on my list of songs to play at my funeral, great songs. Still get played on 6IX 1080 in Perth and I wouldn't be surprised to hear them on 2CH 1170 in Sydney. Grew up listening to them on 2UW in Sydney.
I think this belongs with them

West Aussie Glen, please let's not plan for that event yet. Hopefully there are lots of miles to be conquered before that list of songs will be announced. Cheers mate.

Hey Glen - another gr8 song and it qualifies also as "organic" coz the "Son of a Preacher Man" surely is a practicing organ player.  :whistle.
Heard a podcast recently bout Dusty Springfield and how the black community readily accepted her as the first gr8 white female soul singer and what an xtreme perfectionist she was with her production crew.  IOW "maniac". Don't know bout that - gr8 artist.

The kid has a good voice, but frankly Nigel THOTRSun is one of those songs that almost any1 can belt out a reasonable rendition - I said 2 my daughter 2night that if she changed our Yamaha digital 2 an organ I would have a go at it (and I have a very average singing voice) - Danika said "Get the music dad and let's do it".
Careful wot u ask 4 - u just might get it.  >:() |-i

Great blasts from the past there.  I love "Whiter" and "House".  Dates me pretty well.  I just googled the lyrics for the former.  They do make a kind of sense (if you're on LSD).  I get close.  I use LEDs.     :grin

When these were first played on the radio I used to tape them thinking that if I didn't, they'd just be lost and I didn't want to lose them.
Not much chance of that with West Aussie's 6IX and our Brisbane 4KQ and 4BH.

We did something like that!   :thumbs

Instead of the "Bridal March", we had the organist play "Sounds Of Silence" for my bride's entrance.

(She didn't ever take the hint)   :grin

Remember the first time 'The House of the Rising Sun' was played on air in Perth.
Pretty sure it was about 10pm on a Friday night - radio 6PR some time back in late '64.  (probably wrong about the station)

The DJ announced that if anyone didn't like it, just to phone in and he'd stop playing it.  :eek
Then, of course, anyone who wanted the song to be kept playing could also phone in and he'd start playing it again.  :clap

That must be some sort of record for the length of time to play one song - when on and off for over an hour before the DJ relented and played the whole thing right through without a break.

We where sitting around at a hamburger place next to the Canning bridge at the southern end of the Kwinana Freeway that night listening to it on the car radios.

The car jockeys where either our mates or too scared to turn their radios off - never really sure which it was that night.  o:)
We where viewed by the general public as being evil motorbike riders of the same type as Marlon Brandflakes in his film - 'The Wild One'

Eighteen years old, had a car license figured it would do for a motorbike licence as well, black leather jacket, white, oil splattered T-shirt, blue jeans, fur lined flying boots, leather gauntlets - even had hair back then and it was usually full of oil from our 650 Triumph or BSA motorbikes.
( AHHH ! Them was the days alright !  :thumbsup )

I was hoping to create a place where we can remind each other of the wonderful and evocative songs from our youth, and at the same time get some reminders of other great music from my own.   It seems to be working.    :grin    :popcorn :popcorn

I was a romantic (well before I became a rheumantic) and bought a guitar to serenade the lassies.
I learned enough chords to play "Love Is Blue" (3 I think) and by the time I added vocals, the women were stampeding for the door (out).     :'(

They still play that on the 60s stations.

When I was 15 (1970) I could name a few songs from different bands that I liked but there wasn't a song/music from Creedence that I didn't like. I found one that wasn't to long.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbI0cMyyw_M# (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbI0cMyyw_M#)
