Now that the ST 11-13 family is no longer in production, some will look at what is filling the ST segment of the market. I was more than slightly impressed with the Triumph Trophy, just looking at the brochure. Don't get me wrong I am not looking at changing my ride, but that Trophy seems like a beautiful ride.
In the same vane what do you all think of the smaller, lighter but still a possible Sports Tourer (with limited full tank range) Yamaha MT-09 Tracer? For some the lighter weight might be nice as we keep adding years to our age.
Has anyone taken one for a ride? Any thoughts?

You mean this ugly thing? There was something about in the last Road Rider edition.....

The BMW F800GT would be a contender for a light weight tourer.
-
ST1300 is still in production......just no longer imported into Oz :|||| :|||| :well :well
But would you want the 2016 model anyway ??

I could live with that one......looks like a tourer and shaft drive. 5 bolts on the rear wheel makes for an easy tyre change over.....

It's got a Belt drive and I could live with that. :thumb

Oh my god that is ugly as sin.

Probably pass on both.......................the Yamy looks like a 650 trailbike on steroids.......but I`m not in the market for a bike ..yet. :wht11

The Trophy is great, but it is in the same weight class as the ST11/13 so not the best if you are looking to go lighter. IanB likes his F800, the Tracer looks like an interesting option (being a triple, Yamaha just can't help themselves!)

Funny thing that concept of ugly. Its not always in the image like we see beauty, occasionally it's in the critiques choice of words.
For the record its quite possible to go as far and even further on a smaller fuel cell than the ST holds. Some days you guys seem to miss that as a possibility.
Oh and I'd have one of these Yamahas any day of the week. They ride very well.

I'm with you Gatey and Piet - might be looking for more of an adventure bike after STella has breathed her last breath of
diesel PETROL dammit! :cuss
Anyone worried about the 520kms range the ST13 gives should really ask themselves if it will REALLY be that annoying to refuel at 400-450kms instead? In the real day to day world I think not. 400kms is already 4-5 hrs in the saddle. :eek
I love the idea of being able to turn off the bitumen to head up to that yonder peak, or river crossing, or development road to Birdsville!
If you are currently loving the ST - 11 or 13 - it is seriously time folks to start considering other options. There's not too many places on the map Gatey hasn't taken - AND LOVED IT - on his Yammy - one of the very few 'keepers' in his stable I believe. :rockon
Thanks for the post Piet - these crossovers and adventure bikes have a fan in me. :thumb

I reckon if the budget ever stretched to having two bikes in the shed, my second would be a Suzuki V-Strom 650. It would be the perfect bike for exploring the Flinders Ranges and beyond.
-
I hate to say it (no, actually I don't) but I'm loving my new FJR. I thought I wouldn't find a bike I like as much as the ST, but I did. No regrets here.

A friend at work has the bigger V-Strom and the spark plugs can only bought from Suzuki at over $40 each.
