Title: ST cam tensioner on the left
Post by: curious1 on August 08, 2015, 07:33:27 PM
Hello everybody
I am just waking from my winter hybernation and have the urge to assemble my ST to running order again. After lots of procastination I have decided that the valve clearance is on the lower margin and will have to do. Now while assembling the bike I found a hurdle getting the left cam tensioner back in the block. It has grown by about 7mm and after winding it back as far as possible it is still to long. What have I done wrong?
I got the Haynes book. All the basics I have but somehow cant see the solution.
Anybody can help with a hit? Balranald is coming up soon and I would like to come with the ST. If I can manage.
Cheers
Alfred

Alfred I have never touched the insides of my 1300 motor, but look at this link Brock created.

Around Section 8-24, it may assist you.

Good news. I have managed to assemble my ST to running order and have now the knowledge that the valve clearance is on the lower margin.
I dont know I ever will get that enterpricing to to this again and adjust the clearance. I think electric motor cycles will be available by then and my ST will be a museum piece to be taken out to scare the kids.
