If they have to hide it, then they know it's wrong.
The labelling can't be to reassure those who "need" it because it's not outside for them to see it either.

Gents and Ladies.

I had a good think about that post, I would normally have removed it, however, if the manufacturer was confident of their decision then the labelling wouldnt be hidden. In effect, the manufacturer has removed freedom of choice from the buyer.

I will be keeping a close eye on the comments and will remove the thread if it gets heated.

This happened about 3 months ago and I wrote to Dairy Farmers with my concerns and to express my disappointment at their packaging - an obvious attempt to maintain sales and hide the offending symbol. And yes, it is my belief this "certification" is nothing more than a somewhat legalised protection racket. (I know others disagree).

Dairy Farmers wrote back and stated that they had complied with the Australian Food Labeling Standards and if I now no longer wished to eat their cheeze then that was my choice.

This lack of concern for the customer is not unique to Dairy Farmers and indicates that corporations believe they can continue to survive from sponsor funding and the vast public that appears apathetic about most things.

In my opinion "hiding" the symbol has done them far more harm that being open, but who am I, obviously no one of importance in Dairy Farmers scheme of things....

Me too. Dairy Farmers are off my list, not so much for doing the Halal thing (which I agree is a racket), but sneakily hiding it until the packet is opened.
