Title: Aust War Memorial - Warehouse Open Day, Sat 5 Sept!
Post by: atoyot on September 01, 2015, 01:39:10 PM
Just got notification that the AWM Technology Centre is having an open day this Saturday. Link is

https://www.awm.gov.au/events/big-things-store-0/ (https://www.awm.gov.au/events/big-things-store-0/)

I haven't been to one of these yet, but this fascility is where they store all the stuff that they don't have on display. Check out the link and I think anyone with an interest in the AWM will find this is a day not to miss!

I think this might have made the choice to go to Temora this weekend a bit easier! Canberra, here I come, well at this stage.  :think1

I agree with Abe and have also been there a couple of times and it is truly remarkable.  I think used to be open one day per month, but that changed years ago.

I do agree it is worth a visit.  I have been a few times when I was based in Canberra.  The displays in the war memorial are great and worth a visit if you have not been for a few years.

Yes, it's been a year or two - last time I went was when they had just added the WWI photos found in France. Haven't been to the warehouse yet, so gotta work this one out quick as I might do both - Maybe Friday for the AWM and Saturday for the warehouse.

I might be able to join you on the Saturday at the warehouse.

That'd be great! I'm about 3.5 hours ride away, so I'm happy to leave here at any time to meet you there. I was thinking about parking there somewhere, but if too busy, we could park elsewhere and take the shuttle. Let me know what your plans are,
Andrew

Just got off the phone from St George, so it looks like there could be myself, Rubencan, StGeorge and Stroppy meeting up in Canberra tomorrow morning sometime.

I think I've got the furthest to go as I've just checked Google maps, and going on where I think people live, Gregory has about 2'30" travel time, Ruben has 2'40", and I have about 3'10" (without stops and going to fast google way!). Terry has a commute to get there, so he's not going to be too impacted to get there asap. I'm not overly keen on leaving here at 5:30ish to be there by 9:00, so I guess, what time would suit you other guys to get there? If I left at 7:00, I'd be there by 10:30, but happy enough to go anytime after say 6:30?

I'd suggest meeting at Maccas here:-

https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/McDonald%27s+Mitchell/@-35.2289606,149.148412,15.01z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0000000000000000:0x40345bf5c5c8857b?hl=en (https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/McDonald%27s+Mitchell/@-35.2289606,149.148412,15.01z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0000000000000000:0x40345bf5c5c8857b?hl=en)

and we need to get a park near here:

https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/Australian+War+Memorial+Treloar+Technology+Centre/@-35.2165876,149.1504967,15.01z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0000000000000000:0x2ebbb2adfcda2868?hl=en (https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/Australian+War+Memorial+Treloar+Technology+Centre/@-35.2165876,149.1504967,15.01z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0000000000000000:0x2ebbb2adfcda2868?hl=en)

so depending on traffic and parking, we can work out what we do when we meet. Terry is taking his car, so there might be options on parking etc.

Over to Rubencan and StGeorge for when they'd like to meet......... :popcorn

I'm happy with that schedule 2moro, or another suggested 1.  :)
Meeting at MuckD's and going in Stroppy's car is a good diahhorea (idea) coz parking round the Memorial is restricted apparently.

OK, 10:30 at Maccas it is. Ruben just let me know he's stuck with other commitments, so there'll be 3 of us! See you tomorrow at 10:30!

Title: ManFlu wreaks havoc on Aust War Memorial Warehouse Open Day, Sat 5 Sept!
Post by: atoyot on September 05, 2015, 01:15:21 PM
Just when it looked like we had a quick ride coming together for the AWM, I got the worse dose of ManFlu  :Whipped and had to pull out at the last moment.

Sorry I let you guys down. Will ensure that I take my manflu innoculation before next ride.....

Looking on the bright side, I didn't pass the dreaded bug on to St George or Stroppy!

When I returned your call this morn Andrew, I didn't at first recognise your voice, so croaky was it.  :H

The good thing is that the glutinous glergy didn't strike a cupla hrs into the journey when u would have probabubbly pressed on and ended up miserable and terrible company 4 toxic Terry and gruesome Gregory (that's wot it might have felt like)!

As it turned out the Illawarra turned on the wet weather so I would have had a wet trip home and instead I faced up to installing a swing 4 metres high on a tree without falling off the ladder, b4 the drizzle started.

As discussed with u, the War Memorial would make a good RTE in the ACT 1 day.
