You may like to think about this route from Coonabarabran to Dubbo. Some lovely country road, just need to be a little careful of wild life when going through the Goonoo State forest. It is actually 10 kms or so shorter.

OK... back from my shopping, and to the task in hand... Gary left Grafton around 50 mins ago,
and is climbing towards Glen Innes. Great road through there. Should arrive Glen Innes around 1.00pm

Hmmm.... can anyone see a pattern emerging here? Maybe he is just refuelling at the servo that the bike obscures?

725km for the day and it looks like he's overnight at the Tamworth Ashby House Motor Inn. No camping for this traveller. :thumbsup
-
Looks like you are right, Pete
-
Nope, not this time of year.
I'm also traveling with Sean and a large group of bikes as far as Canberra.
The mysterious stop before Grafton was a refuel stop. The other stops were Harley stops. :grin
The run up the range was good, would have been better if a Harley wasn't in front.
Dinner tonight at the Longyard Bar to meet up with the Nth Qld contingent for Wall to Wall.

The second picture I'm guessing it's because I've left Bubbler running overnight and it is inside struggling to get a fix on the satellites.

Now the emotion of the day has subsided I can add some details of the ride.
It was always going to be emotional for me as Allan Macqueen and I were in High School together at Kyogle, a small country town in NSW.
This says a little bit of how senselessy we last him.
http://monumentaustralia.org.au/themes/people/crime/display/100949-constable-allan-wayne-mcqueen
Now for how the day went.
We were up early and back at the bikes ready to ride down to The Domain for the morning service at NSW.
On arrival we saw the NSW MacLaren and the Austin Martin. And the bikes kept steaming in. It at that stage was the biggest gathering of bikes I'd ever seen.
Soon the Bagpipes started playing and the crowd moved up to the memorial.
As we waited I saw a RCMP uniform and went and asked the him if he minded if I got a photo. Someone he was taking to offered to take it for me. Afterwards I had a story chat as to what brit him to this event. He said his daughter lives in Sydney and he wasn't going to be home for their Peace Officees Memorial Day so he thought this a fantastic opportunity to participate and get to ride a motorcycle in Australia.
The service was brief but moving and the minutes silence soon passed.
Then it was back to the bikes to kit up and wait to depart in a fully escorted ride from The Domain, over the Harbour Bridge, along the M7 and onto the Hume with most major on ramps being closed to traffic.
At 2 separate places along the Hume Highway to Goulburn there were signs with the names of officers who had passed and the cavalcade slowed to 40 km per hour with serving officers standing to attention and some holding a salute the entire time.
At over bridges and on the sides of the highway there were people standing and waving with riders returning the wave.
At one point, I could see the leaf bikes and ask the Red and Blues on the crest ahead of us and it was over 2 km by the time I reached that point there was still fat more than 2 km of bikes behind us. In fact over the CB, when we were over 15 km past the junction of the Hume and M7 I heard they were just reopening the Hume.
There were some impatient drivers and some belligerent Truck Drivers, but in the most part everyone was well behaved.
We peeled off at Goulburn for lunch at the Police Academy and by the time Sean, his mate Terry and I had eaten, bikes were still dribbling in.
Worth only 80 or so km to go, and with Terry on a Harley, we decided to head off ahead of the pack, refuel Terry's bike and make or way to EPIC which was the final gathering place before the ride to the National Memorial.
There was a pavilion set up with Indians and Yamaha and a few other motorcycle related businesses.
We hung around there for a while and then the message went out that we had to be on the bike ready to go by 2:45 pm. So we sky followed the instructions and we're ready to go on a quote warm Canberra afternoon. Around 3:00 pm we departed and rode up around the square at Parliament House and then down to the National Memorial near The Carillon.
We were only 5 minutes from the front of the gr I uo and we're parked up by 3:20. The rest of the bikes continued to arrive up until after 4:20.
While we waited, I went and found Allan on the wall. Up until then it hadn't felt real, in all these years.
Then the ceremony began and each state came forward with the baton fire their state which is hollow and carries the names of officers worst names will be added to the wall on Police Memorial day 29th Sep. I am pleased to say all batons were empty this year.
After the service I thanked Sean for the invite, said my farewells to Terry and some others and went to Lionel's for the night.
We had a lovely dinner and shared a red and soon I was ready for bed.

Gadget, when planning your trip from Portland to Adelaide, I'd suggest the coast road to Port McDonald, and then Mt Gambier, and the Coonawarra wine country to Naracoorte, Keith and and onto the Highway. The road going up the coast via Robe, Kingston and Meningie is far less scenic.

I awoke at 3:15 am and couldn't get back to sleep. I was concerned about the forecast for Melbourne including Rain/Thunder storms and my planned arrival time in Peak Hour.
So I packed up and ate the breakfast which Lionel had arranged for me last night. Thanks :thumbs
Just before 4 am I backed out of the garage and started the bike and rode out of Lionel's street. Just up the the hill from Lionel's I stopped my first Marsupials, three small Wallabies beside the kerb.
The air temp was showing 10 °C and by the time I got to the bottom of the hill it was down to 5 °C.
Once I got out of town and had no street lights I could really appreciate the new Luminaries. I could see up to 500 metres down the road. (Checked with the trip meter)
As I rode towards Cooma it slowly dropped to just 1 °C. Between Canberra and Cooma there was light fog and clear skies and very few other vehicles and the occasional breathing Eastern Grey. Plenty of inert ones and the odd deceased Southern Hairy-nosed Bulldozer.
My helmet is fitted with a pin lock anti fog screen, which in the past has worked really well, today it wasn't sealing correctly and was tapping my exhaust gasses between it and the visor. This necessitated riding with the visor up in very low single digit Temps. By Cooma I had enough and pulled over, removed the Pin lock and dried everything out hoping for a resolution to the problem. When I rode or of the driveway of the servo everything wad clear, when. I got to the boron of the hill and back into the fog it immediately fogged up again but not as bad. However it was to much to see clearly and the where still Marsupial activity to contend with. So more riding with the visor up was required.
Between Cooma and Bomballa there was heavy fog and the temp dropped to -1 °C. The new gloves worked really well with only my finger tips being mildly uncomfortable. In this fog, I only felt safe at 60 to 70 km/h so it wad a slower than expected section.
Coming out of Nimmitabel 60 zone I overtook a B-Double which was on the wind up. As I past I noticed in the mirror he had a blown headlight so I got on the CB to let him know. During that distraction and checking the mirrors too much I nearly hit a dead Grey which was right across the Centre of the lane. Quick counter steering and I managed to only hit the tip of the tail on the right hand side of the road.
At Bombala I pulled up on the side of the road and speed or the visor again. If was starting to get light by now and I rode up into another heavy fog during the 60 zone which cleared just after the 100 zone so I gave Pan a kick to get motivating only to rack the target sled to have the GPS tell me to turn left in 500 metres. (I just made it without requiring a U-turn.) The brakes work :grin
After Bombala the temp quickly rose to 12 degrees and I was feeling very comfortable. This was short lived as the Temps again dropped to 1 °C. Fortunately the fog was now quite sparse so the speeds elevated. The pin lock was still cussing problems so the was a lot of full windscreen and visor up riding until the temps got above 15 °C.
I stopped at Lakes Entrance for breakfast @ 12°C and left 1/2 later at 24 °C.
I stopped for half an hour to recharge the helmet and to grab some water and a break before the last leg. Our so I thought. The tablet I hag been using to display the maps decided it was no longer going to play so I stopped at one who to reset it and then head to stop at the next to replace it with the phone to get me the ready of the way.
Apart from strong gusty winds as I left Sale, was a really easy ride from there and the temp slowly climbed to 28 °C before dropping to 27 °C in Melbourne.
-
As I rode past Moe, I thought of my friend in Brisbane who was originally from Moe. To my surprise and coincidently her hubby rang me to invite me to their place tonight and was surprised to hear I was passing Moe. :grin He rightfully worked out I want going to make it to theirs tonight.
-
Nice going Gadget. You are certainly getting around!

Under bright lights this evening I think I may have discovered the problem with the pinlock. The pins cams were in the loose position. This caused the insert to flip about. Tightened the cams so hopefully it will do is job again.

Well I couldn't sleep after 10:30 pm so I got up at 11:30 pm got dressed, packed the bike and departed at 11:56 pm. At 11:58 the local constabulary pulled me over for an RBT.
first refill at West Wyalong 28 litres :eek. Quick nibble and drink and back on the bike.
Rode up to Dubbo and topped up and another muesli bar and drink back on the bike.
Coming down the hill into Coonabarabran at 9:00 and spotted a Red Wing (West Aussi Glen) parked up kitting up to go. So I stopped and had a quick chat before they continued south. They gave me the good oil on a cafe (Sisterellas) for breakfast, which as I was due for a break, was very fortuitous.
On track to be home between 6 and 7 pm.
-
By adding approx 120 kms to your route you could have easily done an SS1600 on the way home. Just sayin'.

What a bad way to finish of a holiday :'(
Best of luck with a speedy recovery

OzSTOC Team is on the case.
Plans are in motion to collect the bike for safe keeping, and to see to Gadget when we find out where he turns up and see to his repatriation.
Gadget,
My mobile is 0417922187 should you need it.
-
Earliest reports are that Gadget may have a had a car turn in front of him and has collided with it.
Garry is injured, but injuries are not life threatening.
Bike may be a write off at this stage, and Gary is being transported to (I think), Narrabri Hospital for care and observations.
Chris and Pockey are in transit back from Balranald at the moment, but may be able to shed some further light on the subject for us all once they are settled back home.
In the mean time - we'd all, I'm sure, like to wish Gary a speedy recovery, and hope that all goes as well as possible in the meantime.
-

Gary, you need to call Dezohn at your earliest convenience. She has had a call from the police advising you are in Narrabri Hospital and that you're injured, but nothing else.
I've just spoken to her and given instructions how to look at this thread on the forum and told her that Team OzSTOC is onto it.
Hope it's nothing too bad. Hurry up and heal!
-
Hi Gary I hope you are on the mend soon. Just got back into Adelaide and saw the posts. Not the ideal way to finish your trip. There are better ways to find that missing 13 ml socket! Steve. (Richo)
-
Spoke with Gary's wife this afternoon. Anyone who contacts him should tell him to ring home. NOW. His mobile rings out.
Spoke with Moree Police as Narrabri was out. They have spoken with the lead officer who believes that Gary is in Narrabri Hospital. Hospital won't admit he is there. Normal privacy rules I guess.

Gadget and I have spoken a few times throughout the day and he is in reasonable condition considering the alternatives.....He "may" get transported to another hospital later in the day......Honk is on the way to collect the bike from the towing yard to secure at his place. :-++ :-++ to Honk for responding to a fellow members SOS :-++ Thanks mate :thumbsup Thanks also to STeveo who is monitoring :thumb
I will let Gadget bring you all up to speed on the incident and his injuries "if" he chooses too......
We all at OzSTOC would like to wish Gadget a speedy recover and offer any assistance to him or his family.
If you haven't joined the RAN.....have a :think1

Thanks to Chris for keeping us up to date as possible to Gary's situation, and to Honk for looking after his bike. This is a terribly disappointing end to a great weekend at Balranald, and has really dampened the celebration.
Gary, know that Chris, Marcelo and I wish you a speedy recovery.

I was xray for hours
Spoke to dezohn

Speedy recovery Gadget. Hope you are ok. Not the best way to end a trip.

Gary musn't have been getting enough readers of his thread an decided to spice it up a little - eh mate? :eek
Might have to talk to Brock about changing its name to ... Gadget's Big Ride (4 States and a Territory & an ambulance).
Gadget is expecting to be transferred to Tamworth Base Hospital now that he is stabilised folks. The driver of the other vehicle was a gent in his 90s, so thoughts and well wishes with him too.
There may be updates from Gadget himself when possible too. :thumb
-
Not moving tonight, 1st thing on the morning.

I hope you have a speedy recovery Gary :thumb
-
Gary,
Theresa and I are sitting in our motel room in Hay finding it hard to comprehend the end to your day.

Not sure how well your new fashions will go when your back on two wheels, a bit to drafty at the back for my liking and you would scare the hell out of any one following if you stand up on the pegs. Seriously though it is good to see you are in one piece.

Recover soon big fella :thumb, plus I love the blue off the shoulder number your wearing in bed :crackup :rofl

You dont quite carry off the " Off The Shoulder" look...
Get well soon.

Sexy ........ but a bit too much shoulder .. we want to ooze sexy ... but not say I'm easy....... and blue does bring out your eyes.
Gary, how tragic and I feel sad for the loss of your beautiful blue.
Speedy recovery mate, as you've had many offers of support please add mine to the list if there's anything I can do to help let me know.

There is a plan A and B for Gadget to get home ;-*
Is there a Plan C that says I get to drive the Transformer down to Tamworth to get him? Or is that Plan B?
Or would he prefer a pillion ride home on Ruby? :grin

So far today I've used a walker to get myself to the shower and showered myself without pain relief. Next time I'll have the Endone first.

All things considered you are very lucky :thumb

Given that the ST is a moderately heavy bike, does the additional weight of a lost 13mm socket while fitting the riser cause it to become un-rideable? :p
-
The 13mm socket was swept off the roadway :grin

I'm going to take a stab at this and say it'll be a rite-off.
psst... I know of a white 1300 in Toowoomba going cheap :p

Off bikes for the moment, for some reason. :whistle.

Just as well they put that green sticker on it to say it's unrideable ...phew close call there .. someone may have hopped on it and riden it....... :o

I'll come around for a visit when you are felling up for it :thumbs
-
Fantastic news mate! Take it easy, not that you will feel like doing much for awhile.
-
It's great to hear that you are going home mate. Sadly your bike looks in very bad shape indeed, but it seems you have been quite lucky to get out of this smash without more serious injuries. However, I'm guessing that you may not be feeling as though luck has gone your way.
Pete ( and Chris :KissBlow )
-
The bike isnt so bad, a wipe with an oily rag and a bit of duct tape and all will be good(ish)

By the look of the crutches in the background you're got more than a mashed hand.
In any case, to walk away from that wreck is pretty amazing. Almost enough to get you believing in Providence. :grin

Fractured pelvis to go with the mashed hand....
-
Not much they can do with a fractured pelvis, can't splint it, can't plaster it or strap it, and it very painful while it heals.
Just before I finished work I did see a pelvis wrap/sling come through for extraction for a rescue.
Anywho, when your up to it Gadget, I'll pop on down and see how you're going only an hour from Bli Bli, I'll bring the red terror down (MGB)
-
Given the condition of the bike and the extent of your injuries your first stop should be to get a lotto ticket whilst your luck in. Good to see you came out of that in one piece. Bikes and pieces of gear can be replaced, people can not . I hope you have a quick and as painless as possible recovery.
-
Can I please ask that bike photo not be reposted on FB because I don't want to traumatise my family. Especially before they see me.

I'm assuming the bike photo... and noted

How's the recovery coming along, Gary?
-
Slowly. I'm off to see the Orthopaedic Surgeon this afternoon to find out what happens with the left hand. I expect an operation, but not sure when.
In prepared it is going to hurt more when he has finished.

Hang in there, all part of the healing. Just rest up and take it easy.

The pain is only in your mind, so forget about it.....
OK, its in your hand. Hope the pain goes quickly, I was going to suggest hand exercises but thats not going to happen for a while.
I hope no-one else winds up in Hospital, or Diesel will see a conspiracy... o:)

Good to get the operation behind you so the real healing can begin.
While the pain-killers are great, they ruin your head clarity. Feeling like a zombie doesn't made reading or anything else much, very pleasant. It's lousy when you can't even enjoy the time of enforced inactivity.

Still on the way home and will unpack it all and get some washing done tomorrow perhaps. Medication dependent.

I've had a quick sort through the gear before hip pain stopped me.
One of the over mirror mounts is broken (by the state of my left hand I'm guessing it's the left) and the mount for that driving light is also bent. Haven't tested them for function yet. I'm thinking of getting a SUV so might hang on to the lights for that. Don't know yet.
I have the left hand pannier liner/bag which Lionel gave me so that will be free to a good home.
A two piece Gear Sack tank bag Kev Murphy gave me, so that will also be free to a good home.
I have the Sena SR10 minus the push to talk handle bar button. (PTT button is available as an optional extra from Sena or suppliers.) The big button on the face of the SR10 is also a PTT button. $200 ono
The Interphone F5MC is still attached to the helmet. $250 ono
Sold to WendyL
To blue top box with carrier rack (complete with reflective stickers). $??? No idea what is worth. Doesn't have the mounting plate. Sold to Shiney.
Blue right pannier with only very minor scratches. (Normal wear, not accident related) $???
Blue left pannier with more scratches (accident related), but a buff and paint should sort those out. $??? Sold to Stimpy
The very confortable for a tall guy, Corbin Seat. $200
Sold to JGlan10 (onesie)
The Air Hawk I might keep in case I need it for return to work with my Pelvis fracture. My office chair isn't all that comfortable.
The antenna bar With LED indicators and brake lights attached. $100 . sold to Stimpy in a bundle deal with the panniers
The air horn I might keep and fit to my car when I get it. :grin
I can't do post and packaging at this stage so pick up from my place at the moment.
-
I reckon shiney will want the panniers.....if not i will take both & the top box too (i really do feel like a vulture)

Don't feel like a vulture. I've no use for it any more and want to see someone get some use out of it.
What do you think the panniers and top box would be worth?
I feel bad that I didn't remender to take my old seat in for Dee to take back to Guyra for Honk. I don't like having a fuzzy head.

That's the effect I was alluding to. You've got to have the medication, but it would be nice to have a clear head with it.
Good to see you're functioning well despite it.
As a matter of interest, you mentioned using the Sena knob as a PTT.
How does it bluetooth to the CB? Is there a UHF radio bluetooth module, or was it through a Starcom?
-
The Sr10 is a bluetooth hub which has hard wiring to the CB radio. Dale Maclean can sort the cable bit.
It then bluetooths to the helmet bluetooth unit. In my case the Interphone F5MC.
I'd recommend getting the PTT cable a it is so convenient to just use the thumb or finger on the left hand to activate the radio.
-
I have the Sena SR10 minus the push to talk handle bar button. (PTT button is available as an optional extra from Sena or suppliers.) The big button on the face of the SR10 is also a PTT button. $200 ono
The Interphone F5MC is still attached to the helmet. $250 ono
I can't do post and packaging at this stage so pick up from my place at the moment.
I'm interested in the Sena and F5MC, not in any rush so more than happy to wait until you're able to pack and send, or may possibly pick up next time I'm in Brissy.
cheers

Update:
My GP has made a small change to my pain meds, giving my a 10 mg Targin for night time and a 5 mg Targin for day time with Endone to stomp on any residual pain if needed.
He also ordered an xray on my left shin bone and my right ankle as both are still quite painful 2.5 weeks after the accident. I suspect a hairline fracture in the tibia and I have no idea why the right ankle is so sore. Some times it is sharper pain than the pelvis pain and stops me in my tracks.
Tomorrow the plaster comes off and the Hand Physio specialist starts her "torture" as Dezohn calls it. Dezohn has warned me to take Endone before the Physio starts because it is extremely painful getting the Knuckles moving again. I think I'll also take some with me for afterwards.
I've started looking at cars (well SUVs) and thought I'd narrowed it down to the VW Tiguan 130 kw Turbo Diesel, only to have VW announce last Sunday that they are temporarily halting sales of new 1.6 and 2.0 litre diesels until the emissions issue is sorted, which of course, includes theTiguan. This leaves me with the more expensive 155 kw R-series petrol Tiguan or after some looking around on the web, the even more expensive Ford Kuga Titanium 2.0 litre Turbo Diesel. I hate to say it but the Ford looks better value for the money. Although Dezohn tells me it is outside of budget.
Tomorrow I'm going to look at a Passat Alltrack and possibly the Tiguan R-series. Might even consider the Golf GTI.
I now have a CTP claim number so the medical bills so far should soon be recoverable and future bills will be sent direct to NSW Suncorp CTP.
This morning I spoke to the Principal of Kerin Lawyers at my place and things are looking more promising. I was concerned for ongoing medical expenses as these injuries could plague me layer on. He thinks a letter from him may get Swann to cover the helmet as well.
On Saturday I get the stitches out of my left ring finger and find out what he did to it.
Now, I'm going to try to get a good night's sleep. I haven't had one in weeks and it is exhausting.
-
Thanks for the update mate, have a good sleep.

Because I'm buying the Alltrack which comes with Bi-Xenon headlights, I don't think I'll be fitting driving lights to it.
-
A very nice ride, hopefully mr VW will not be sending you any emails like they have sent to me. It is very confusing, better mileage and using less diesel with higher emissions or less mileage, higher fuel usage and less emissions,. :o :o. Very confusing. I know my amarok can go from Adelaide to Phillip island and back to Ballarat before it needs fuel. What it will do after they " fix it". Is anyone's guess

++. Progress in even small stages of recovery is progress.

Swann Insurance have paid out on the bike at agreed value, which was more than I was expecting. I only lost less than a Grand per year from what I paid for it. ++
And I had more than a Grand per year of enjoyment.

After a phone call from StinkyPete this morning I thought I should provide an update.
I'm still slowly recovering from my motorcycle accident on the 20th September 2015.
My Pelvis has healed to the point where it rarely hurts to walk. Steep slopes have to be zig-zagged. Sitting for too long can still be uncomfortable. Long staircases present a problem too.
During hand physio they have been measuring my grip strength. My right hand has been recording 45 to 47 kgf (kilograms force). The first measurement on my left hand in late October was 12.6 kgf. Two weeks later it recorded 18.6 kgf. A fortnight later, after much exercise, it disappointingly recorded only 18.4 kgf. This was infuriating. However, I persisted and last Tuesday I managed 20.4 kgf. Every morning the hand is stiff and painful and I can make a fist but not without significant discomfort. Occasionally my ring finger goes a funny colour when I make a fist, especially first thing in the morning.
The MRI on my right ankle revealed damage to 2 lateral ligaments in the ankle, damage to the achilles tendon, and bruising to 2 of the major bones in the ankle joint. The two bones are the leg bone which takes the weight and the corresponding bone in the ankle. I have been receiving ultrasound and heat treatment twice a week. I can now walk fairly normally on flat surfaces most of the time. Some steps and turns can still stop me in my tracks from time to time.
My left shin was bruised on the bone. It is still sore at the bruise site, however the bruise which streamed from the site and down my leg has disappeared.
I've been back at work part time for the last 3 weeks. 4 hrs/day for first two weeks and 6 hrs/day last week. I've got 6 hrs/day this week from Monday and then back to full time next week for a week before a compulsory 2 week Stand-down.
I am still recovering and I am pleased for that. I can't help being impatient though. It could have been worse.
-
Good to see Gary that you are back at work :like
-
It's awesome to hear that the recovery is getting better mate :hatwave

Just keep lifting those stubbies with the left hand, and you will be on to tallies in no time
-
Well, I didn't think it take this long to get to this stage.
I still have pain in my right ankle which pulls me up short when walking or turning. From my left hip to knee still has a bruised bruised feeling. My left hand mostly works well with the occasional loss of grip and it gets stiff when it gets cold.
Anyway, on Thursday we finally reached an in principal agreement with Suncorp Insurance on compensation for my accident on 20th Sep 2015.
My medical bills costs were over $25.4k which Suncorp had already paid. There's also over $1.5k of Medicare bills to be repaid. Suncorp started with an offer of $5k!!!, meaning we would owe them money. So we started $123+k. After a lot of ping pong phone calls (over an hour and a half), we met somewhere in the middle.
It will have to do, because that's as much as I could get.
It could have been a lot larger if the accident hadn't been in NSW, where they've got a limit of $50k for total and permanent disability. So everything below TPD gets much less in court.
Still waiting on the paperwork and it can take up to a month before the money hours the bank account. The money will go towards the mortgage for now.
Kerin Lawyers in Brisbane were really good through the whole process and looked after me very well.
Cheers,
Gary

Gary I didn't realise you still had ongoing issues with your accident
But I'm pleased you are getting a pay out through Suncorp
But I bet you wished it never happened and you still had your ST

Thanks Leo.
Yes, I'd much rather not being in constant pain, not need the money, and still enjoying my ST.
I'm very grateful to be alive and for the enduring friendships the to which my ST led me.
