Title: Crash Test Dummy's report
Post by: Gadget on October 03, 2015, 04:06:53 PM
Seeing as I have recently gone to the trouble of crash testing my bike gear, Shiney suggested I provide a report on the effectiveness of the protective items.

The gloves I was wearing were brand new (2 weeks old) RST Outlast in 3XL.  Prior to the accident I had ridden through temperatures from -1 to 29 °C and had been comfortable through most of those temeratures. At sub zero temperatures, my fingers were mildly uncomfortable. people who know me will know, i don't do cold well.

As for accident performnce, the Carbon Fibre knuckles did their job and stopped all my knuckles from being broken.  The breaks I did sustain were in the back of the hand (5th Metacarpal) and the first knuckle on the ring finger.

The Jacket was an RST Pro-Series and was great comfortable Jacket in all those same weather conditions.  The accident performance as impressive.  I hit the ute with my upper left shoulder and even though the outer sleeve tore, the inner sleeeve is in tact and all the CE padding protected the rest of me.  The only bruising to my upper body was the upper arm and hand. I had flown through the air for between 5 to 10 metres.

Hope this helps someone in their purchase decision.

Cheers,
Gary

Thanks for being the Crash Test Dummy mate :-++ (although you have chosen a very painful way to do the test :eek)

The RST gear sounds like a winner, I'm going to have to check out the gloves :thumbsup

The Helmet, a Shoei Neotec, has minor scratches to the bump at the rear. The Noggin and neck weren't in any pain. :thumbs

Very interesting to read, I'm on the hunt for a new jacket and have been avoiding RST as I have a jacket and pants which had stitching come undone and bits fall off within six months.  That particular jacket has a lot of duct tape and superglue on it now... Good to hear a positive report on them because I actually like a lot of their stuff (lots of pockets!!)

I'm also on the helmet hunt, the Neotech is the most comfortable fit I've found so far, just waiting to find one on sale somewhere.
