With summer approaching, and hot weather riding on the horizon, here's a useful link to a sugar and salt rehydration solution.   This is far cheaper than the commercial isotonic gatorade type drinks.    My doctor (now retired), spent many years as a GP in 3rd world places back in the 70's, and regularly used this type of oral solution for his patients.  He  advises that oral solutions such as this are absorbed by the body many times faster than plain water and would be very efficient at keeping your body hydrated when riding in hot conditions.

When hot weather riding, I have always carried weak solutions of Gatorade powder, but now use the suggested sugar and salt solutions.

I wonder if this mix with the amount of sugar would be suitable for a diabetic? I generally stay clear of any drinks or food (custard tart yummm) as the sugar hit wears off after a while and extreme tiredness comes into play . . I wonder if sipping this solution over a few hours would help avoid the tiredness?

The best thing to drink is plain water. For energy, stop and eat.

I had an experience a few years ago when doing the Round the Bay bicycle ride. Thats 210 kms around Port Phillip Bay. Yeah nuts I know. I am doing half of it tomorrow. With all the events around here lately I havent prepared well enough to tackle the whole ride. I am more sensible these days.  I used water for a number of years and pulled up very tired and leaden muscles later that day and a couple of days following. One year the organiser provided a powerade drink at the ferry which was about half way. You could fill and refill your water bottles. They only did it one year due to the cost I suspect. At the end of the ride that year I was much better. Still a bit tired but muscles not leaden. It made a huge difference and have used it since to good effect. I know the physical effort is different for motorcycling but I will use a slightly weaker solution and have some powerade and some water. Just more information to throw in the pool on this topic.

Stroppy you could try a weak solution and as you say sip it over a long period. I use the powder as it is cheaper and easy to carry in dry form.
