My "Big" Ride
« on: November 09, 2016, 02:45:42 PM »
I had a couple of days up my sleeve, the weather was looking good, so I decided to go for a decent ride.   My specific aim was add to my tally of my ST with “Big Things”.   Have a look at my route, that took me on some previously unridden back roads through Victoria.
On my first day I bagged the following:
Big Golfer at Pinaroo
Big Mural at Brim (seriously impressive)
Big Bull at Birchip
Big Murray Cod at Swan Hill
Big Sheep Shears at Hay
Today I rode back home through the Riverland, and saw the Murrumbidgee in flood with the Balranald Caravan Park barely out of the water and sandbags across the top of the levee bank just keeping the cabins dry, with some already flooded.   As well as an impressive sunrise shot across the Hay Plain, I photographed some more Big Things.
Big Tyre at Yamba
Big Lizzie at Red Cliff
Big Ram at Karoonda

See  http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=68.msg1210681#new   for my Big Thing photos.

Well done on having such an interesting theme.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

I didn't there was a big ram at Karoonda but it has been awhile since we were that way. Had a look on google maps and I would have missed it anyway.

Nice ride though.

We've got a big Parliament House in Canberra if you need a longer ride.
It's filled with idiot politicians from the six states that send them here.  :||||

I've just discovered that the collective noun for Clowns is a Shudder.  :grin
Canberra could therefore have the Big Shudder, or the Big Circus

Christmas about 5 years ago, the town of Speed changed it's name temporarily to 'Slow' as a road safety incentive during the holidays.  :thumb

Thanks for sharing Pete.  At the Big Banana in Coffs Harbour there is or at least used to be a sign showing a large number of Big things around Australia, not sure how up to date it is though.

Thanks TJ.   Wikipedia has a fairly comprehensive and up-to-date list, and I snap one with my ST whenever an opportunity presents itself.   :thumb     See   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia%27s_big_things
