Nearly New ST1300 anyone???

Of course things don't usually go as smoothly as we would like, and the 30-minute installation procedure turned into half a day for this little newbie...

Then of course there were some other valuable lessons, like the one where I was putting the last screw back into the top cover of the airbox and dropped it so it fell right down into the throttle area lol.  Then there was the second lesson where I got the top cover back on successfully and put the tank back down and then saw the air filter still sitting on the ground.   Some guys are just not meant to be mechanics lol.

That WD40 trick is a good one.  Another aspect regarding those screws is they are JIS heads (do a search on "JIS" in the forum for more info).
You sure learn things the hard way!  Taking the tank up and down and the airbox cover off can be a real pain, especially if you have bar risers.

The nearly new STeed got a new screen this week. I ended up getting the medium from CalSci. Amazingly I managed to install it without breaking, dropping, forgetting or losing anything 

It makes a massive difference. With the screen right down at suburban speeds there is much less wind on the helmet than with the stock. The stock screen seemed to chuck all the wind straight at my visor. If I raise the screen just a bit but so that I am still looking over the top of it things start to go quiet. With the screen right up I can do 120k on the highway with visor up and it’s all very peaceful. The buffeting and back pressure are gonskies. Very happy.

To make the most of the freight cost I also ordered the under-mirror wings but I haven’t played with them yet. They need holes drilled in my prestine mirror housings so I will probably try them out with duct tape before I get the tools out.

Steve I have a large CalSci screen and love it
It came on my first ST1300
Was the first thing I swapped over
I have the under mirror wings but don't use them
They are a great screen

I got it direct from California Scientific. US$185 for the screen.  Shipping to Au was about US$70. ouch.

I know there are several local aussie places that make custom screens, but as an engineer I enjoyed reading the technical pages on the calsci site and they managed to convince me that they know a lot about aerodynamics.
