What’s the points of a rego check?

  booked the ST in for it’s annual rego check and I really can’t see the point of it.

Taking into account I’m from the UK where we have MOT’s which are more stringent, the mechanic came out, checked lights and blinkers and horn and took note of the kilometres and that’s it!

Do they ever fail bikes? It took less than 2 minutes taking longer to do the paperwork.

Move to Queensland.  Only need a Roadworthy for a sale, no annual checks.
That used to be a problem with some dreadful wrecks being allowed to drive around, but with second-hand cars so cheap these days, anyone can have a reasonable set of wheels.

Don't have to worry about it in SA.

At least both major political parties don't see it as being required as vehicle defects cause little to no accidents.

All the inspection means is that your vehicle is roadworthy on the day of inspection. The next day your brake light globes could fail and not be noticed for a day or two.

I mentioned the globes because the ones on my Territory failed (maybe not at the same time) and until I moved the car at night it wasn't noticed. It was also puzzling that the cruise control had failed and worked again when new globes were installed.

In NSW its just another method of stealing as much as they can of our precious cash reserves. F'en thieving 3 tiers of Governments.

  Got to take the bike for a rego check next week. Will ask the inspector what does he do. Bet he has never been asked before.

Its really beyond me why they don't do a mobile service. That would save us all the trouble.

After my Dad died in Ulladulla in 1998 the family went there for the funeral and planned to take his oldish toyota corona back home. My brother drove it first and then I did. It had a lot of freeplay (undriveable) in the steering so we took it to the tester who was his mechanic to ask him about it. The mechanics story was that he could have faulted it but as dad was a pensioner he was trying to help him out and save him money.
My point to him was that the cash was no good to him if it caused a collision due to loose steering.


So if that happens what is the point.

ppopeye I've never ever heard of a pinkslip person test riding a motorcycle to do the brake test, but the do test drive cars with this meter thingy majig  to test stopping power..
