UHF CB radio on STs...

Anyone got a funky way of operating a CB from the ST WITHOUT a Starcom or Autocom?

I have a PTT button, but don't want to run it though the Autocom, but ease of operation is paramount.

Any ideas?

I have been thinking about that for ages.

It means coming up with a direct connect system of some sort. And it depends on the CB used as well. A handheld means running on batteries. and an under dash type means custom wiring and water problems.

This sounds like a pretty good unit.

The only way I have found works that's simple, is to run it through your intercom system. Had it running like that for years without a problem. Their may be a UHF set with Bluetooth that will solve your problem that may be ran to a Bluetooth headset. But for me if simple works stay with it

That would be good. the main problem using Handheld UHF on a bike (Except fot the old IC40) is the ability to run it off bike power and still be able to transmit. My old IC40 from Icom could, but some one stole it many years ago

Some of the handhelds come with headsets you can run direct without going through a comms system.  Depends on the options available for the handheld.

Diesel I ran a set up like this on my Blackbird before I got the Starcom.  Main issues I found was I had to wire an extra headset to hear/talk with and the usual response was either wind noise or hard to hear when talking. 

I used a car UHF under the duck tail & ran the handset to the dash I had made.  I then put a plug into the handset which changed the speaker/mic to a headset I had mounted in the helmet so I could use it normally when I wasn't "Plugged" in.  Found it was semi successful but a pain having extra wires running into the helmet.  At the time there wasn't this connector available:

which may allow you to do it a lot easier these days, but a few more items to charge each night when you're on the road. 

The whole system works a LOT easier when you have a Starcom, or Autocom, and Dale McLean to give you support.  I would strongly suggest to spend the extra and get it done through a proper system buddy because you won't regret it.  Just don't tell the misses where the passenger connector is.

I like Tack's idea for a simple method, you may also like to look at the BTA (bluetooth adapter from Dale) if all you want is smiple. I have just added the Starcom1 Digital to my bike but yet to use it in anger all looks good though.

$900 and up is a bit out of my reach for a device that will get MINIMAL use at the best of times
