What Browser Do You Use...
« on: February 07, 2025, 01:49:58 PM »
I've used Chrome, Edge and Firefox (and probably a few others) over the years but, as I watch a lot of YouTube videos I soon got sick of being bombarded with all the Ads.
Yes, I've tried ad blockers and some have worked for a while but YouTube eventually wises up to the fact that you're using a "blocker" so they then nag you to sign up for YouTube Premium.

Around 18 months ago I discovered the "Brave" browser (https://brave.com/) and since using it I've never had a problem with ads popping up or any other issue whatsoever!
And to top things off, it's a lot more secure when it comes to your privacy...
Happy to recommend!... :thumbs  :grin

My brother in law uses NordVPN and then uses an app to access Youtube through Albania. Apparently Youtube doesn't serve ads to Albania.
This is as much as I know i.e. don't ask me any questions, but it works really well.

Thanks for the reply, Mark!
Hmmm, sounds like a roundabout way of doing it but hey, as long as it works!  :thumbs

I don't have NordVPN but I actually tried it with a different VPN and it worked for me too.
Still, I don't use a VPN all the time, so I'll just stick to using "Brave"...  :grin

I use Edge for Norwegian, Brave for Japanese, chrome for Englsh, Vivaldi for Korean.  It save switching languages for search purposes.

I have been using Opera for many years, after Firefox seemed to grow too bloated. Its built in VPN works well, and the built in ad blocker has been extremely good until recently. Some ads are starting to leak through, especially on Farcebook and the tube.

I'm with you, Rusty- Brave has proven to be very good.  I also use the weirdly named DuckDuckGo which claims to protect you. On odd occasions I have to use Chrome to see rare websites that won't display in either of those.

Thanks Bill!
I vaguely recall trying DuckDuckGo years ago although I can't remember why I didn't continue to use it...  :think1

DuckDuckGo is the slowest of them all to load, and that's apparently because it carefully erases your browsing records and checks stuff to be sure, to be sure!

Hey Rusty, curious to know how you know its safer.

They told me...lol.  :grin

If you can believe their blurb:

Quote
Is the Brave Browser safe?
Brave is one of the safest browsers on the market today. It blocks privacy-invasive ads & trackers. It blocks third-party data storage. It protects from browser fingerprinting. It upgrades every webpage possible to secure https connections. And it does all this by default.

It’s also built off the open-source Chromium Web core, which powers browsers used by billions of people worldwide. This source code is arguably vetted by more security researchers than any other browser. In short, not only is Brave safe to use, it’s much safer than almost any other browser.
