Time For Another Ride...
« on: March 10, 2025, 03:38:54 PM »
I figured it was about time I donated Plasma again so with last Friday being a gorgeous day (even though it was a touch too warm for comfortable riding) I headed off for my appointment which was at 12.15pm.
The ride over was uneventful, (unlike last time) and I arrived with plenty of time to spare...

After donating and a few light snacks, I headed off on one of my favourite routes...the ride to Tarra/Bulga National Park.
This route takes you close to the Loy Yang Power Station so I thought my first stop (and a photo or two) would be at the lookout.
Unfortunately it was closed up so I continued on.  :||||

The road through to the National Park is a great biking road and is reasonably well maintained due to the road being used by the occasional logging truck and it also being a tourist road.
I've yet to see much traffic on this road and even though it was the start of a long weekend, I only saw a couple of cars...

I arrived at Tarra Bulga but didn't bother to stop as I wasn't interested in going hiking and I wasn't yet ready for a break so I continued on past the Inline Cafe.
After travelling a few k's down the Grand Ridge Road, I turned off down the very narrow Tarra Valley Rd.
This road is sealed but is barely wider than a single lane which made for some interesting moments when I encountered a few 4wds coming the other way.
One time I ended up stopped pretty much up against a tree to avoid an oncoming 4wd but it all ended up okay!  >:()

On this ride I didn't bother stopping at the Tarra Falls as I've been there a few times and posted up photos on a previous ride report.

Once I got to Devon Nth I got to thinking about traveling a different route home. I do get sick of the South Gippsland Hwy so I wondered if I could make my way via some back roads to Agnes Falls.
Now I knew some of these roads were gravel and normally I would avoid them but, what the hell, nothing ventured, nothing gained...lol.
I figured if they were too bad I could always turn around...

As it turned out, the gravel wasn't too bad, being fairly hard packed with just a light layer of sand & loose stones.
After what seemed like only a few k's I ended up back on a sealed road through Binginwarri but the seal was short lived with the road going back to gravel again shortly after.
Thankfully I didn't encounter any other vehicles while on the gravel and eventually I arrived at the Woorarra Rd intersection which is sealed.
From there it was a sealed road all the way to Agnes Falls.

After making use of the "long drop dunny" to rid myself of some of the excess water you're required to drink before a donation, I headed for the falls.
While it's only a couple of hundred metres away, I was soon soaked in sweat as it was pretty hot wearing my bike gear.

After taking a few pics it was time to head for home...
Although phone reception was nearly non existent, I figured I'd better send a text to Sue letting her know roughly where I was, just in case...lol.
Probably should have done that when I was leaving Traralgon...oops!  :whistle

Feeling dehydrated from the heat, I made a brief stop at Foster to get a Big M, then it was back on the road...

With Sue letting me know she was having dinner with her sister, I arrived home to some peace and quiet, and decided it was takeaway for dinner...  :grin

All in all, it was a good day!  :runyay

They really are a beautiful bike, aren't they (particularly the red ones). Great ride report Rusty.

Thanks Mark, I appreciate your comments!  :thumbs
I have to agree about the ST being a beautiful bike and, in my opinion, I reckon the Sargent seat makes it look even better...  :popcorn

Pretty falls too!   :grin

Lovely clean bike, but I prefer the original pipes for looks.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Thanks Bill!
I didn't mind the look of the standard mufflers but they were way too quiet.
The Delkevics sound better (and for the price are a quality product) without being too noisy.

I do have a set of Staintune mufflers sitting in the shed and one of these days I might swap them over as I reckon they sound a little bit nicer than the Delkevics... :thumbsup

I love the Staintune pipes
They look and sound better the the original or Delkevics
But I changed the baffles to a bigger one than the standard that comes with it

My Staintune mufflers came from my other ST1300 that I sold a few years back.

When I bought the bike the previous owner had removed the baffles and, while it sounded good, it was too loud for me.
Luckily he still had the baffles. The original oem mufflers (in mint condition) also came with the purchase which was a bonus.
I ended up fitting the original mufflers from my current ST1300 onto my other ST1300 which I then sold.

Just as an aside, apparently Staintune are now in Tasmania...  :thumbsup
