Helibar risers
« on: April 03, 2013, 05:24:12 PM »
Hi guys/gals.

Just looking to purchase a set of Helibar risers for my ST1300 and note that the local importer (Mick Hone Suzuki, Melb) is out of stock. Soooo!!! I thought I would look at importing them from, say, the UK, but the postage alone was 95 pounds English.  That sounds very expensive for a relatively small piece of aluminium.

I was wondering where other members, with this accessory, found a better deal.

I haven't tried any of the US sights yet to compare shipping rates.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Helibar themselves don't ship to Australia. Presumably only to their importer.

Just as a follow up to my Helibar fitting project.

I contacted Helibars in the US directly who contacted Mick Hone Suzuki and discovered that Hone's did actually have them in stock even though
their website said otherwise.

So, I picked up the risers saturday morning and in my attempt to fit them broke one of the 2 main connecting bolts and have just ordered 2 more bolts from Geoff Taylor Honda in Dandenong.

Well, there are none in Australia, according to them and so they will have to come from Japan and probably won't be here until the end of the month.    Nooooooo!!!!!   Three weeks without a bike......torture.

Oh well, perhaps I can service it while I'm waiting plus give it a bit of a detail here and there.

When fitted my Helli bars I removed GenMar 2" risers......these had longer bols and I now needed the standard shorter bolts. Took the bolts to a agriculture parts business nearby......got the bolts I needed in high tensile Hex head and correct pitch thread......about $3 each.

Job done and torqued up to recommend tourque setting.

How much for the Honda bolts ??

Cheers

Thanks Chris.

The short answer is $36 for 2 bolts/washers/nuts.

I actually thought about shopping around but thought that these bolts were so unusual/specific, the liklehood of finding the same
elsewhere would have been like locating a pin in a haystack.

It's awesome that you were able to find replacements but I just don't have the time to do this, so I just ordered factory replacements.

Mind you, if I did know where to get them close by, I would be around there in a flash.

This sort of thing is always frustrating isn't it? According to the dealer there has never been any ordered within Australia before.
Good old 'murphy's law'  always applies when I try to do something.

But I am a firm believer that everything is connected and happens for a reason. Perhaps my 'angels' wanted me off the bike for a while.

I know from past experiences that it's best not to upset them so I just accept it and move on.

How have you found the Helibar risers Chris?

$36......ouch !! but not surprised.

Very happy with the bars.....was a little concerned at the little flex in the bars after completion but research tells me this is normal and is not noticeable at all on the road ......probably absorbs some road vibration so it is not transferred to you.

Cheers
