Using credit cards for on-line purchases

Have you ever experienced this frustration?

When purchasing on line you complete your shopping cart, go to the checkout,
enter your card details and press 'submit order' or whatever only to find that the
system does not accept 'your type' of card for this transaction.

Why does this happen on some sites but not others when I am using the same
Mastercard?

Even more frustrting because I have found a parts supplier in the US who has a
certain part sitting on a shelf there but the Honda Australia dealer is talking a month
or so wait for the same part from Japan.

But when i try to purchase it the above happens and the dealer couldn't explain why
either. I mentioned to him that I wonder how much business might be lost due to this
non acceptance situation. I know in the past when this happens I have continued my
search for another supplier and just keep trying until I am successful.  Even more
frustrating is that I am talking about a single bolt/nut/wash from my ST1300.

Whilst the bike is sitting idle at present, I have taken the opportunity to service it
and I think I have polished it three times so far

The site I get parts from in the US only accepts credit cards from the US.........but Paypal for international orders. It's in their payment/shipping policy. I find that rather silly as paying by card the only fee payable is the currency fee charged by the customers bank.

With Paypal the customer pays the currency fee (in excess of a banks rate) and the business also pays a fee for using the service. Anyone that sells on E-bay will know the fees that Paypal charges the seller.

I hit pay by card (as I usually do) on my first order and an "address mismatch" error came up. Had me baffled for a minute or two until I remembered I had to use Paypal which I did to complete the transaction. The country code on the card threw up the error.

But what happened in my bank account wasn't expected. Even though the card transaction wasn't accepted the transaction still went to my bank as a "pending transaction" If the transaction fails to complete with a set time it drops off and everything is ok. It took ten days before I could access the cash that was on hold as I use a debit card.

Nothing wrong with your card........just the retailers payment policy as to what cards they accept and from where. Most of these transactions being online the sales people in the shop might not even know about it.

I use paypal for almost everything overseas, it is simple to track and follow, your fees are all identified as well as working out the exchange rates.

I use paypal for the OzSTOC shop, it has made keeping track of everything so much simpler.

Just in the short time since I posted this thread I realised that there was another mention of this problem in another thread
that said international orders with this retailer had to be done via PayPal.

So, I have registered with PayPal, linked my card details with them and tried again to order the parts. Bingo!  Not a problem.

Finally sorted that out and no doubt this will satisfy any other requirements that come up on other sites that haven't accepted
my card in the past, more than likely for the same reason.

All is good now (hopefully) and I just have to wait  for them to be shipped priority paid.

I was hoping to do that ride to south of Ballarat (13/4) to meet some fellow Ozstoc members but that will have to wait until
the next time.

I just had a similar problem with an o ring supplier in the States.  They sent a Paypal invoice (no problems, I have an PayPal account) but I could not pay because it was not an US Paypal account.

Sent an email stating same, they adjusted their setting on paypal and the purchase was done.
