ST1100 won't start
« on: November 25, 2013, 06:58:42 AM »
Hey guys, I have posted this problem before. I was told that ST1100 ex police bike had an issue once all the lights and sirens are removed the wiring on the second ignition barrel short out causing the problem I have.

My bike is dead, no ignition, no lights, nothing. Battery if fine. on the near side fairing is another ignition barrel that allowed the engine to run whilst emergency lights operating but immobilised the bike so it couldn't be stolen. I was told these wires need to be disconnected from the barrel and joined together, also they are connected to the cut off switch on the side stand switch which need to be disconnected and joined  together. I am going to get in there and have a look today and would appreciate any info on which wires join to which. I was sent a wiring diagram for this problem but I don't understand it.
Cheers,

Unfortunately the Honda police wiring diagram does not cover that extra wiring, and I haven't had to deal with that setup.

If your wiring looks like mine you'll have to replace the bit that Saaz is holding.

OMG!

(But I think saaz is holding a socket   :rofl )
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

The wiring is worse than it looks, and is very custom made (not my idea!)

If it was able to be started to ride home I am pretty certain it is not a wiring problem but a connection problem somewhere, exactly where is the unknown. I would suggest you don't start changing wiring.

The barrel switch uses two wires that go down to the  side stand switch. Its on the left side, near the left foot peg. You should find a freen wire fitted with bullet connectors that are connected to the imobiliser wires. Unplug the extra wires, and rejoin the the green wire bullets.

This wont stop all the lights n stuff, it just prevents restarting the bike.
