Hi guys,
First of all happens year to you all.

Yesterday I was out trying a new set of spotlights on my 1100, fitted them to see how they looked thn dismantled them again to paint the brackets.
Before I dismantled them, as they were not wired in, I took a feed straight from the battery to the lights, they worked perfectly , so all was taken off and bike put together again.

This morning I went to go for a ride, turned on the ignition and all the lights came on as normal, pressed the button to start and all I got was a click, and all ignition lights went out and now it's dead, fuses are ok and I have no idea what to try next, any advice would be appreciated, failing that will need to call a garage to come take it away.

Have you checked the battery?  Sounds like it was nearly flattened or has carked it.  There's a much bigger drain to the starter than the lights, so a bit of lights doesn't mean there's enough for the starter.  When you hit the starter it can take the last of the power.

Mutlimetre your battery with the ignition off (note the reading) and then turn your ignition on (note the reading) and then start (try) the bike (note the reading), your battery may be dead or flat after testing your driving lights.  Normal things, on centre stand, in neutral , well ventilated area.

Then look at starter relay.

Now doubt more knowledged members will chime in soon.

Thanks guys will go see what I can do now, lights were only on for about 10 seconds, and battery was ok before, but will start there ,

I put jump leads on it and its started, so yip I'm thinking new battery, thanks Biggles and abe for advice,

Could be an earth or an earth if that fails try the earth........after you load test the battery 


Funny how most problems that are electrical related with a rapid onset come from something you just did even inadvertently while attending to other electrical works

Had something similar happen on a ZRX I had once, turned out 1 of the battery leads had come loose.
