Pro-Lift Motorcycle Lift ($119) at Repco
« on: February 01, 2014, 06:58:53 PM »
Hi folks, If you're into servicing your wheels, and don't like to crawl around on the garage floor - you might consider one of these...

I spotted this in the recent Repco catalogue (offer ends 9th Feb): Rated to take twice the weight of the hefty ST1300.

Link to the catalogue here.

Hi Ted,

I thought about buying one of these. Do you have one or know anyone who has? I presume it would have to go under the sump and I wondered how well the bike would balance if picked up like that.

I've looked at these for my 1100. I think they are really designed for bikes where the frame is exposed beneath the engine. With the 1100 there would only be the sump, and that would need some spacers to prevent the belly pan being involved (unless the grey pan is removed of course).

I would hate to have 300 kg of bike coming off the lift at 418 mm above the ground. Not cool....

I too would like to hear if others have tried one.

Had one when I owned a Vulcan years back, never felt all that comfortable using it, now I have a full bike lift with tie downs if required.

Yes it is one of those things which is tempting because of they price will the reality meet the expectation.
Having said that I ride with a guy who picks up a Harley fat boy with one but it has a frame.

Yes, they're cheap but they won't do the job, you can't safely lift the ST with these lifts as there 's no frame under the bike. If you really want to service your own bike, and lift it safely, then you're going to need to spend a bit more. Remember, at the end of the day, that is, when you're no longer into bikes, (if ever the day comes) then you can always sell it.

This is how I handle it!! :grin

Might just have to allow some extra time for an oil and filter change when I visit next month :crackup.

I bought the "pro lift" from supa cheap on special $80 last year. I have trialled it and it is NOT a very good option for my ST1300.
it fits and has the ability to lift, but if you do not have at least 2 good anchor points in your shed, to tie down while lifting it is unsafe and dangerous as the bike "rocks" on the relativley small foot print of the sump and is unballanced. I have not used mine for any servicing. I have used a ramp style hydraulic jack to remove the front and or rear wheel.

a good long table lift is a great investment imho

It is identical to mine from Malz a couple of years ago, from memory around $450.

I brought mine from "Radum" here in Tasmania and it's a little more expensive than Yorkie's, perhaps because mine can be raised pneumatically or hydraulically, or perhaps because it was brought in Tassie and not the mainland, I paid $525. I made the timber ramps to service our cars and they became useful when riding the bike up the ramp at walking pace, I also made the safety platforms on either side of the ramp so as I had somewhere to put my feet once I'm on the ramp, they just lift out of the way, as do the wooden ramps before I raise the lift. It all works well and I feel very safe riding the bike up the ramp. It only took a couple of days to knock up the timber platforms and didn't cost much. I already had the timber ramps and they just happened to be the right height and length. :grin

Couch,
How long ago did you buy the lift?
Does it have a manufacture's name or model no to enable me to chase one down on the big island?
cheers,
Lionel

I purchased the lift on 30th July 2013, from "Radum Pty Ltd" in Tasmania, my contact in Tasmania was Gary Willson, and the model identification indicated on my invoice is RDM-SN0502A 560Kg (1250lbs)  Air/Hyd Bike Lift.  "Radum" are a National company and their state addresses and phone numbers are listed below.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA/NORTHERN TERRITORY - 50 Catalano Circuit, Canning Vale, WA 6155 Ph 08 9456 2133

Hope this helps, :grin

I've got a pro lift, but I don't use it on the ST very often. It's usually used for the Yamaha Vstar or the Suzuki Boulevard to service them.

However I did modify the top of the lift to make it more stable, I'll take a couple of photos and post up.

I would be very interested to see a photo and any dimensions you may have of the adaptor plate for the pro lift to fit the ST1300.

many thanks

In their web site, click on "Products", then "Clearance Items", then "Motorcycle Stands/Tables", and there they are.....looks like they could be going out of them as they're listed at $250 + GST............I didn't check the size though, you'll need to check that if you're interested enough. :grin
