I don't know if it's worthwhile reviving this old thread, and I'd forgotten that I'd started it, but I've got a confession to make.....

I've had G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) in relation to old cameras for a while now, nothing to do with bikes as such, but I thought I'd cured myself as my collection is just about complete, within the scope of what I collect. Well just when I thought I'd beat the addiction, I had a fairly bad relapse last night and I bought 3 x Yamaha XS650's, in varying states of use. I think my wife wishes I'd stuck with cameras.

OK, they're not Hondas, but I keep missing opportunities to buy a Honda twin of choice, a '67 CB450 "Black Bomber"
Of the 3 XS's, a '75 XS650C, in French Blue is in beautiful original running condition. My brother on the Sunshine Coast checked it out for me and strongly recommended it. The 2nd one is an '80 Special, of which I think are one of the ugliest Japanese cruisers of the day, except for the fact that it is powered by such a beautiful engine. Not sure what to do with this one, as it needs new carb CV's, and some cosmetic work to bring it up to Blue Slip standard. They are probably the most common XS model, but could be a good café racer project, with a rephased 750cc motor hot-rodded up. The 3rd is pretty much a frame and swingarm with enough bits to build a complete bike. All I know is that it is a standard model (pre Special) and it doesn't have a fuel tank. In reality, I was really only after all the spares, as many are interchangeable between the different models, and I know I'll need a few bits for my TX650A when I get around to it.
Actually, I just thought of another excuse for my obsessive impulsive G.A.S. relapse, and it's because I've gotten used to having a ready supply of spares after I bought my wrecked ST off the insurance company. The fact that the XS spares came with 2 free bikes is just a bonus.

Looks like I'll have to join a club now, as I can't afford full rego's on all my bikes now.
Pictures to follow after I work out how to collect it all from the Sunshine Coast!
