QF-16
« on: May 03, 2014, 03:36:07 PM »
You may have seen this.  If not, not a good day for the future of manned aircraft.
The aircraft pilot may soon be on the endangered list it seems.

This little 4 minute Boeing video is really something.... a first for a full size jet airplane.
These F-16 aircraft have been in the bone yard at Davis-Monahan (AZ) for 15 years
and are now being used as drones!  Thousands of planes that were grave yard bound, with costs in the hundreds of millions, can now be used as never before.

This suggests the war of the future may be markedly different.

They are used as target drones Peter,

Aparently they couldnt get any pilots to sit in there and get shot at, so wired in a model plane controller.

I'd read that about them being target drones Brock, but thought what an expensive way to train their pilots
