Side light bulb replacement

My mate Foxy needs to change the right hand side, small side light bulb, I think we need to take off the RHS fairing to get to it, anyone have any experience with replacing this little globe, getting to it looks to be a proverbial pain in the @$^#

I did a search on "running light" in here and in STOwners without a hit.  I recall someone in here has changed one and lamented long and hard about it.

They are called "positioning lights"  ST2UP posted something I think.

I did changed mine to LED and just reached up from the front. Not easy 

Take off the inner plastic guards to make more room

I have replaced mine.....but had mirror and side tupperware of at same time so was very easy........not as easy with plastics on but possible.......you need to get the same Dr you use for your prostrate exam to assist you

The biggest issue when changing this bulb is the bulb holder is a rubberized housing and when you pull the bulb housing out of the headlight your almost guaranteed to have the bulb fall out the front of the holder and into the headlight 

A piece of wire with some blue tack or tape sticky side out will fish it out for you without the need to remove your headlight assembly

Like Chris , I have dropped one into the headlight, I changed both to LED's.  As suggested it is a pain to get them out by reaching up from underneath.  Pull the plastic off and make it easier for yourself

I did find this made it easer to replace the positioning/clearance lights.

After fitting the new Bulbs, I took a look at the front and the clearance/parking lights looked decidedly yellow.  As the new set came with blue tinted clearance/parking light bulbs or as Honda call them "Position Light", I decided to have a go at replacing them. 
The Owners Manual on Page 117 gives 4 steps and refers you in step 1 to Page 88 inner cowl removal.

I've replaced a headlight bulb previously but have never tackled the positioning/clearance/side light bulbs, I've read the service manual on how to do it but I find it's good to gather information from those who've tackled something themselves as quite often there's an easier way to go about it. I do appreciate everyones input!

I will hazard a guess but that's all.

In the ADRs there's something about car parking lights that now need to stay on rather than go off when the headlight is turned on. Guess if a headlight globe fails on a car then what is normally a parking light at least gives some light which gives on coming cars etc an idea of the width of the car at night. That's out here but on a bike a little light that close to the other headlight I doubt would be seen.

Remember the older days when if you saw a single headlight at night and it turned out to be car and not a bike.

I think there are still some countries that require a bike to have parking lights on when left on the street at night so those lights serve that purpose as well.

If they go out, leave them. You cant use them as parking lights if you leave the bike at night (besides, the battery would go flat). This way you save money and time
