Thought I would send you some pictures of the
SA Overnight RTE 27th Sept 2014 - Silverton...
As I was unable to leave first thing Saturday with Lonerider1 and Mick due to other commitments, I organised to meet them late Saturday evening at Penrose Park in Silverton where we agreed to share a bunkhouse.
I left at around 12:30pm on Saturday and headed to
Merbein where I decided to do a quick fuel stop before heading off to
Wentworth NSW and the trip up the Silver City Highway to Broken Hill. The day had turned out perfect for the ride as there was little wind and beautiful clear skies. I was tempted to stop in at the
Coombah Roadhouse for a quick break but time was getting away from me so I decided to continue on and rest up at Broken Hill instead. The only livestock I noticed during the ride up were some goats around the half way point and a few emu's on the outskirts of Broken Hill so you could say the ride was very uneventful.
I arrived at
Broken Hill at about 3:30pm and called in at the Caltex servo to top up the tank and also to get some sugar into me.

After a quick stretch of the legs, it was on to Silverton to catch up with the others...
The Silverton Road between Broken Hill and Silverton has plenty of dips and, as I had made good time from Mildura, I was able to travel at a leisurely pace and really appreciate the scenery which included the wild flowers (or weeds) that are along the way...

Yes, I know what you are all now thinking..."What tha..." As an
offroader expert, I have taken a liking to the plants that I could possibly ride over!!!
The scenery, as we would all pretty well know, is flat with plenty of scrub...

and a few wild horses to greet you on the side of the road...

Anyhow, I reached Silverton about 4:30pm after a few nature stops.

and went straight to Penrose Park were I was the last one to arrive. All good though and after settling in, we all decided to walk across the DRY Black Hill Creek to the Silverton Hotel for a cold one.

The owner/operator of the Silverton Hotel said it was best to watch the sunset at Mundi Mundi lookout from about 6:15pm so we left the Hotel and went back to the camp to pick up our bikes...
The Mundi Mundi lookout is only 4 km from the Hotel so we were there in no time at all...

It wasn't long before we were back at the hotel having dinner...

We returned to the campsite where we were all invited by Alan and Heather to come over to their bunkhouse (with kitchen) for a coffee.
After saying our goodbys the following morning, Lonerider1 (Rick), Mick and myself headed back to Broken Hill for breakfast at Macca's before heading back down the Silver City Highway to Mildura.
Stopped at the Coombah Roadhouse for a quick drink and chat before continuing on to the '7 Tree' roadside rest where, yes, we did count the trees to confirm it was correct before continuing on.

We stopped off at Wentworth where we purchased a drink from the Paddleboat Café before heading the last 35 km to Mildura.
Big thanks to Alan and Heather for organising the RTE as it was a great ride and, as always, good to catch up with fellow OzSTOC riders (and friends)
