Hi Guys,

I wonder if you might be able to help me out with something... I am planning on speaking to the RTA in New South Wales if I can get through, I have tried 3 times already and been on hold for 10 minutes each time.

Some of you already know my bike is NSW Registered, well my Rego is due in November and I still don't know the future of me staying in Victoria and still would like to move to Queensland at some point.  I had heard that if you are only temporarily living in an out of state to NSW and intend to return I can still register the bike as NSW, but I need to know...

Is a VicRoads Road Worthiness Certificate suitable and comparable to NSW Inspection Certificates to allow me to Register and Insure the bike?

Any help you guys can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Arvo J...

If you have a mailing address here in Vic, why not consider getting the bike registered in Victoria? No messing about with greenslips etc...and if you still in transit in a years time all U need do Bpay the Vic rego as we do not require anual inspections here and the 3rd party (pink slip),is fixed here, so no chasing about as in NSW.

Just a thought

Cheers Dick :-)

I have considered it, but with the research I have done so far, would mean that it could cost anywhere up to $1,000 to get it re-registered as a VIC Bike and the Annual Rego.

In this case all they'd probably do is a vehicle ID check to make sure it's the same as the one on the rego papers.

They may want you to transfer your licence as well......

https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/registration/renew-update-or-cancel/register-an-interstate-vehicle

In most situations, as long as the interstate vehicle registration is current and is going into the same name in Victoria, a certificate of roadworthiness (RWC) will not be required to register your vehicle in Victoria. However, you will need to make an appointment at a VicRoads Customer Service Centre to have the vehicle registered.

Can't you get a post office in nsw. Or pay it online. I don't see why you need to get it reregistered?

Motor Vehicle Duty                    $294.00

That fee is for transferring from one owner to another owner.......N/A in your case

He needs to have it inspected before he can do that.....hence the original question as to whether a VIC RWC would be ok in NSW....different state so answer would be a no.

Then I suppose a ride to Albury/Wodonga for the rego inspection might be a possible solution

That is a good idea Alan,

Does anyone know of any inspectors in Albury that are good?  Its quite a ride out but it might save me quite a bit of money.

Doesn't insurance get a little "we don't feel like paying" if things like you don't have your bike registered where you live type stuff happens?

Quite possibly, I still only have the very basic NSW Requirement Insurance that only really covers me third part, I still need to get round to getting proper theft insurance, especially after Dicks mate got his 1300 stolen by blatenly taking it off the side of the road.

The other side is you should register it in Vic and change licence once you have lived here for 3 months

That should apply for a permanent move, however lots of people reside in one state and work in another and might only return home on holidays once a year.

Just remember, any reasons those buggers can come up with to either up the premium or not pay you at all, they will use it.

A simple answer to your question would be 'yes', a Vic rego Inspection will suffice.

I had this issue 2 years ago when we were traveling in WA in a NSW registered caravan. Under these circumstances NSW will accept a roadworthy from interstate. Once you get a Vic roadworthy, the problem then becomes that you have to forward it to someone in NSW for them to physically take it to a Motor Registry and present it for the vehicle to be re registered, as the roadworthy systems in various states aren't linked.

There are other ways around the problem but I won't state them on an open forum.

But the bike is already registered, right? Just pay the renewal don't they send infringement notices etc via email these days. If not. Get a PO box close to whatever border you're on and just change address on blah blah blah. I'm still on holidays and am clearly not understanding the issue. I'm bowing out before my head explodes
