Where can I buy J.I.S. screwdrivers?
« on: March 09, 2015, 10:11:28 AM »
Does anyone know where you can buy JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) screwdrivers in Australia?
Easy to find on ebay from the states, but an $80 set of screw drivers has a $158 delivery fee.

If your pressed for time and have a spare No. 2 Phillips head screwdriver you can just file/grind the tip off a little, its works OK, till you can get the right one's.

Have you tried MCA stores?

I found out the hard way that the screws holding down the funnels over the air intakes of the ST1300 are JIS.
How does one recognise a JIS screw head as distinct from a Phillips head before one uses the wrong driver?

JIS have a small 'dimple' on the head beside the grooves.

Excellent, thanks Abe.  It also explained to me what "cam out" means- I hadn't twigged that aspect of Phillips heads before.
Interesting that he specifically refers to a carby application, as the ST has it in the induction area.

I'll certainly be keeping a lookout for the little dimple.

I have checked out all the leads from this and another forum and think I have found a JIS T bar and size 1,2 & 3 bits from Motion Pro. I am just awaiting a reply from Motorcycle Accessories Supermarket to confirm that they can supply this particular article. It is $US22 on the Motion Pro website.
Thanks everyone for you assistance.

Good find.
But I don't like T bars.
How about buying the hex drive bits?
Now that appeals to me!

Now it's all up to getting them to ship to Oz...    :'(

My thought was that sometimes T bars are good. As the tips are removable I can use them in all the different accessory handles I have for my 1/4" socket set. Motorcycle Accessory Supermarket stock Motion Pro. I have queried as to whether these are available and at what price - I will post when they reply.
