Gaz if the question is CAN you still ride with the helmet legally I would have to "assume" not a chance as it now doesn't meet the manufactures or standards code any longer......I belive the only lid that is ticked to ride with the flip up and back is the evolines from Shark.

And I think the flip back part of the Shark probably adds to some of the crash protection as it stiffens up the front sides of the helmet. So if you removed it it would technically not be legal either.

If your helmet is damaged in any way, then replace it as soon as possible, if not now.

Brock is correct a servicable well fitting helmet is cheap insurance.

......I believe the only lid that is ticked to ride with the flip up and back is the evolines from Shark.

Just to clarify this point... the Shark Evo 2/3 were the ONLY helmets to attain a 5-star safety rating in both the closed and "flipped" positions as you can ride with ANY flip top helmet in the "flipped" position, but the safety aspect drops dramatically in an accident with other brands compared to the Evo.

I went with the Shoei Neotec because it fitted my head shape better and has lower wind noise and two special spots inside for bluetooth speakes as well as special gaps in the padding for specs/sunnies.

Revzilla TV has really good reviews on helmets.
Now Qld allows European Helmets I might look at Schubert next.

Sounds good Gary I also have the Shoei Neotec but it is a fraction tight so still trying to break it in. Nice and quiet. I also have a Shark Evoline 3 but I find it a bit noise

Schuberts are supposed to be the best noise wise.  When did Qld change? I know there is a state of confusion around helmet laws.

As of the 1st Feburary as long as they have the euro sticker.

Helmets are mentioned towards the bottom.

In the summer up here I ride with my face plate open around town, gives you a bit more cooling at the lower urban speeds.

But I click it shut once I approach the open road but ride with the visor one click open.  Never had problems with bugs getting in, the visor seems to ride slightly forward of the chin guard and I get a light flow of air through the helmet.
