Brisbane to SA - Rain

So I find myself leaving Brisbane tomorrow morning around 330am. Yet the forecast is showers.

I have this one piece waterproof jump suit thing I climb into to keep dry. Yet I find with keeping dry that I am sweating my balls off after being on the bike for about 30mins.

What other waterproof gear do people wear that isn't so bloody hot to wear?

Who do I get those business cards from too?

I wear R-Jays wet weather pants. Last pair I bought a couple of years ago were $80. And my Jacket is a RST Pro Series. I wear it with the winter liner in, even in summer, as it absorbs some of the sweat. The gap between the pants and jacket can let a little heat out.

I use wet weather over pants and a separate wet weather over jacket.
However if it's hot and raining I find that I get just as wet from sweat as I do if I don't put on the wet weather gear.
So in that situation I don't bother putting on the wet weather gear at all and as an added bonus as soon as it stops raining the gear starts to dry in the wind.

As for the cards...
All the RTE coordinators should have a stack of cards to hand out to anyone that wants them. So next time you go to an RTE just ask for some

Rain gear is a bit of a catch 22.....the cheaper gear can potentially keep the rainout but as you have discovered it doesn't breath, so you get sweat wet anyway 


The serious way to combat the issue is to buy Gortex riding gear but it hurts big time.....$1,000 average for a Jacket alone  but years of dry riding ahead of you.


The other option is to buy a product like a Rev'it Rain Jacket.....Hi-Vis option, lightweight, Breathable, non stick coated fabric (so you can slide it on over your bike gear) and about $80. I know of at least 5 members here on The forum using this particular Jacket incl us.

We would do similar. If it's just showers then slip the wet weather pants on and the jacket is sort of shower proof but for consistent rain we'll put the waterproof jacket on. The pants keep out the cold wind so they're good for those rare mid winter nights when we're running late coming back home.

For the time I was up around Port Hedland/Karratha I didn't worry about wet weather gear as you'd dry out within 5 minutes after it stopped raining

We also use our Rev'it raincoat when it cools down and night riding as its hi vis and blocks the wind perfectly.

I have Katmandoo water proof pants. Fantastic, light and fit over my draggin jeans. About $70 will get you a pair. A RST jacket tops it all off. OR, you could ride naked. Cost nothing except pride

Now that is nice gear Trev....and very well priced 


Will seriously look at this range when the current Jackets have become unserviceable....may take some time though  ....Loads of features, but just perhaps a little bulky when packed for our needs

Thanks everyone. Lots of tips. Nothing worst than sweating in non breathable gear. So far no rain on gold coast.

Try just leaving a zipper or two open ,or some buttons undone so as to allow some air to ingress and to circulate,I think that you will find the passage of the air will help to evaporate a lot of moisture and create a fair amount of cooling for you.
Of course it goes as common sense that you will not want to leave any openings where a rain shower can enter, and then cause you some more grief,
