Honda did it to us!  They let Yamaha sneak past by developing their technology on the Feejer.  Honda decided to kill the ST1300 rather than develop it and focused on the Frankenstein bikes.  They knew they couldn't improve on the engine, but let the kindy kids have a play with the rest of the bike's features.    :eek

Now that I've taken the FJR on a decent ride to Eungella I can reveal which bike, FJR or ST1300, I prefer for FarRides.
It's the ST1300.
And I can also understand why the police would prefer the FJR for the riding they do.
I can only comment on the ST1300 and FJR. I have never ridden a GW, BMW, Kwaka,  Suzuki,  Triumph Trophy, SuperTen, HD, etc.

Spoke to a couple of our boys in blue a couple of months ago, 1 on FJR, the other on a 1300, both said FJR was quicker but preferred ST.
FJR's also have a lot of electrical gremlins apparently

So at what age does this "old enough to know better" kick in?
I believe in the "hereafter", every time I go to the shed I have to think "what am I here after"

That's what I'd expect- the FJR is more sporty, but the 1300 more comfortable.
I guess the gremlins are mainly teething problems with the new gadgets built in.  One would hope they listen to their customers and iron out the bugs.

The police FJRs are a bit more complicated, as they have a second battery under the seat and a parallel charging system for that battery.  I haven't found a wiring diagram to understand it better, but have seen the extra wiring and bits taken of an FJR that was a reasonable sized pile.

One common criticism I have of both bikes is that they don't have enough 12v wire, fuses or relays. I try to remedy that shortcoming.  :rofl
