« on: September 11, 2017, 08:32:29 PM »
Good day ladies and gents
got this messag from vehicle dept. concerning the clear lenses.
Is there any-one who can read between the lines if its poss, to put the clear lensen on the 1100 ?
Irrespective of the manufactured date of  your motorcycle you may choose to comply to the latest standards, that is ADR19/02. ADR19/02 states the following:

5.13.                Colours of the lights
The colours of the lights referred to in this Regulation  shall be as follows:
                        driving beam headlamp:                                   white
                        passing beam headlamp:                                  white
                        direction-indicator lamp:                                  amber
                        top lamp:                                                         red
                        rear-registration plate lamp:                              white
                        front position lamp:                                          white
                        rear position lamp:                                           red
                        rear retro-reflector, non-triangular:                   red
side retro-reflector, non-triangular:                     amber at the front
amber or red at the rear
                        vehicle-hazard warning signal:                          amber
front fog lamp:                                                   white or enlarged selective yellow
                        rear fog lamp:                                                  red

6.3.                  DIRECTION-INDICATOR LAMP
6.3.6.               May not be “combined” with any other lamp.
6.3.7.               May not be “reciprocally incorporated” with any other lamp

Therefor an indicator light complying with ADR19/02 may have a clear lens but must emit amber light. A light as you have described would be reciprocally incorporated and is defined in ADR 19 as follows;   devices having separate light sources or a single light source operating under different conditions (for example, optical, mechanical, electrical differences), totally or partially common illuminating surfaces and a common lamp body. Under the regulation such a light would be non-compliant.
. Note, ADR19/02  applies to L group vehicles (motorcycle, trikes and mopeds). Standards for other vehicles may differ
I have provided a link to ADR19/02 which may assist you.

Interesting that I've seen plenty of modern vehicles the white LEDs as running lights at the front, which one turns off when indicators are used. Jeeps, Mercedes (including rear indicators doubling up as tall lights).

I think the ADR needs catch up with modern technology.

There's no issue with putting clear lenses on a ST1100 providing the globes (as in cars) are amber (indicators) or red for brake/tail lights.

The only requirement under ADRs is that a vehicle complies with the laws in force at time of manufacture, however, there is nothing preventing you from using the current ADR standard. You can improve to a newer standard but you can't go back to an older standard.

I'm not allowed to fit these to my car http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LED-Projector-Black-Headlights-for-Ford-Territory-GHIA-Model-4WD-AWD-DRL-Style-/161093378440?epid=1831158891&hash=item2581e9e188:m:mB3AcYZ3bhLn3QBkSad3VvQ

What looks like a DRL is using the parking light function on the light switch and they stay on and don't go off when you switch to the headlight. I checked it out with both a seller (not this one) and our transport department.

There are some cars that appear to be the same but the DRL brightness is reduced to that of a parking light when the headlight is turned on.

A relay and resistor or a 5V regulator to turn the DRL into va parking light. Or just a relay to break the power to the DRL when the headlights are on.
