 Hi All ,
I have  a 2000 ST 1100
Looking at replacing the screen .
I am tall ,and understand the screen choice is critical .
All suggestions , pros and cons most very welcome.
i live in the hills area of Sydney so maybe suppliers as well .

Hi John, and welcome to OzSTOC from SA.   

BikeQuip in the UK do fantastic products for both the 1100 and the 1300.    I have one of their screens on my ST1300 and reckon it's the best after marked product that I've bought, and is soooo much quieter than the OEM screen.   However, I have no experience with their ST1100 screens.    You can have a look at their products here......  https://www.st1300-accessories.co.uk/

After having bought both my aftermarket screens from the UK I would not buy from there again.

The one I have on now was from the old Bikequip site and has been on the bike since the end of June last year and is just showing signs of crazing after just one summer and will need replacing in a few years time.

This is the screen I replaced with the current one and you can see how bad the crazing went since it was fitted in November 2010

I used a Screensforbikes screen for a while, but wanted some adjustment. Ended up with an MRA Varioscreen screen, which are adjustable. They come in a tint or clear and are available in two heights. I tried the shorter one, but ended up with the taller one in clear. I like it! Almost no buffeting. Not cheap though. Mine came through eBay from a Dutch (I think) company. Pro Accessories Australia are the local distributors, but they add a premium.

As for a screen for your ST1100...

I used a Laminar Lip on my ST1100 (while I owned it) and found it to be a great improvement to the standard screen for me (I'm 6'4 tall).

The Laminar Lip redirects air flow over top of windscreen to reduce buffeting and noise.
As the air flows between the windshield and the LIP, the air becomes pressurized and redirected vertically.
The air flowing through the LIP is pushed up approximately 6-8” above the normal height of the windshield, creating an invisible extension to the height of the windshield.

As for my ST1300, like StinkyPete, I use a BikeQuip screen and have found it to be the best after market screen I have ever used
(However, as I haven't used the BikeQuip ST1100 screen, I can't comment on them, only what I have used... the Laminar Lip)

There's nothing actually wrong with the screen design or anything and maybe in the UK it's ok but with a much warmer climate like we have here it effects the screen. Even my previous screen looking as it did in the picture was smooth to touch on both sides so it's more like stress fractures with in the material caused by the heat.

The OEM screen never went like that but it did go a yellowish opaque colour over the three and a half years I spent at Port Hedland and Karratha - even the clear plastic over the gauges suffered form the heat outside up there.

Probably though not sure even though the Territory headlights are suffering from it as well.

I was knocked back on an RWC on a car I was selling due to the yellow head light lens.  A $15.00 kit from Repco did the trick.  Enough left over to the Mazda6 and the RAV4, and still more.

Might be worth a try on the windscreen.

Welcome.
I had a screens for bikes on my 1100. When ordering I asked it to be made 75mm higher and 50mm wider each side to suit my height. When fitted it was a tad too high and I had to trim 20mm from the top to get it at the right height for me (top level with nose tip), but then worked beautiful. Not cheap but good quality and I didn't have any problems with crazing in the three years I had it (before it burnt). Have another screens for bikes on current ride and happy with it too.
