MY experience with riding in the west has shown two things. For general coverage to show family and friends where you are, Bubbler is great but it must be remembered that when there is no phone coverage it will not track until it receives the next signal. If you go offroad or in remote areas then this is the majority of cases. Telstra or their network has been the best so a sim card using that is the best. Providers such as Aldi I think uses the network or any of the cheapest can be used.
I have had two accidents or incidents that the bubbler coverage would not have been sufficient. After the first, where a truck driver perished in the heat on a remote station and I was the last to talk to him, I purchased a Spot and stopped using bubbler. A few months back I was involved with a fellow riders accident and used the Spot SOS. We had very little phone coverage but had an ambulance and police to us in 45 minutes. We were only about 50 kms from Mandjimup in the South West.
I do not wish to tell everybody to use a Spot device or other personal beacon, but there is a time and place to consider all events that may occur, especially riding at night, on your own, in blackspot terrain
If in doubt ride slow and safe

Cheers Wombat
