Mechanic recommendations - Melbourne
« on: December 11, 2018, 05:07:43 AM »
Howdy all,

We've finally made the move back to the big-smoke after eight years down the surf coast.  Settling back into life up in the Dandenongs, great riding on the doorstep!  HOWEVER... I've had to give up a 'real' garage for a sloping carport with an unstable gravel floor, which is making servicing a bit tricky (can only get the bikes on centre-stand with a lump of wood to keep them stable, even then it's a bit sketchy!), I've only played with the smaller bikes so far, not game to try and balance the ST while working on it!  So, I'm looking at outsourcing...

Can anyone recommend a good mechanic over this side of town who won't charge the earth for the menial tasks (ie, fork seals etc)?  I'm also coming due for some new tyres, any good local places?

Thnks guys!

Hi Steve
I use RPM motorcycle service Fact 2 Ferntree Gully Rd FTG 97583331
Never had an issue, they did work for Reg Jeffery Honda before they closed down
They know there stuff with Honda motorcycles
If you tell then what's required they will get the parts in and do it on a Saturday morning
They sell tyres, price might not be as cheap as the big boys but what's the heck.
Thier there when I need then and I will pay for that service.

A couple of others including myself use RPM. I was impressed with them and the price was reasonable.
Ruby had a service there only a month or so ago.
They fitted tyres I bought from scarlet thunderbolt in Mackay, pads and air cleaner and a service. I was very happy

Thanks for the recommendation guys, looks like they’re a fun 20min over the hill from me.

Ruby had a service there only a month or so ago.

If you don’t mind me asking, how much did a service set you back? Being the cheapskate son of a Scotsman, I’ve actually never taken a private car or bike to a pro for a regular service (work car’s a different story), but with the kids and Mrs, and crazy work commitments at the moment, I’m very tempted to palm that responsibility off for the time-being!

Cost $530 including fitting tyres, supplying pads and air filter etc. I was expecting a fair bit more

Well, Bluey was dropped off last Thursday to be looked at this coming Wednesday (I've got a busy week coming up and had no other opportunity to get him over the hill). Seemed like a friendly and knowledgeable bunch, I'll look forward to seeing their work (but probably not their bill...).
