Another one from Melbourne taking the plunge
« on: April 26, 2022, 03:42:00 PM »
Hi all! Thank you kindly for the add!

I just got my hands on a beautiful 1998 ST1100 ABS (pending some final work from the previous owner, a bloke who's family business is funnily enough a Honda dealership) and I was searching for an Australian community, I'm glad to see there's one that's also lively and active!

I had been looking for the right long-distance tourer for quite some time, coming from a VTR1000F which would ruin my back after anything longer than a couple of hours. Even with handlebar risers and other mods, I still had this problem - I've always preferred practical and upright - even if people in my age-gap beg to differ... Perhaps it's because my first street bike was a KLR650 :crackup

Coincidentally, my buyer had an ST1100 and gave me the chance to ride his. I instantly fell in love. A tourer that absolutely flies but still handles like a dream, all while having a perfectly comfortable and reasonable seating position + stock panniers - I was instantly sold. I immediately went on the market and bought one.

This leads us to my new(to me) ride!
It's a run-off-the-mill well maintained example with cruise control, Oxford heated grips, LED bulbs, taller windscreen and a top-box coming included. The seat is an upholstered one which is currently being sent back to better fit to my vertically disadvantaged frame.

Welcome- and well-bought!

"It's a run-off-the-mill well maintained example with cruise control, Oxford heated grips, LED bulbs, taller windscreen"

Well, scarcely "run-of-the-mill" with those extras.  I'd call it "well-kitted"!
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Welcome aboard!

coming from a VTR1000F which would ruin my back after anything longer than a couple of hours. Even with handlebar risers and other mods, I still had this problem

As a former Firestorm owner myself, I can confidently say a couple of hours riding on one is almost impossible... The fuel tank is so small you run out well before the 2 hour mark!  :rofl :crackup
