Replacements for the cover that get lost so easily.
« on: May 27, 2024, 09:14:22 PM »
In my other thread about the steel ones that I found on my son's bike ( http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=15459.0 ), WA Glen mentioned 3D printed versions. I have a mate who could probably do this.

My question is this- how many would we want of each side? Buy them as a pair or singly? What would you be prepared to pay for them? Would you want them in bike colour, or in a light grey that could be painted? (This is probably simpler)

I reckon grey or white would be okay as trying to match the paint colours of the different STs would be next to impossible, I'd imagine...  :popcorn

As for how many, I guess that would depend on the price... :think1

Worth looking into though...  :thumbs

I'll put up a figure to get the debate started: for just one side: $50 plus postage.  I support light grey- easier to cover with a couple of spray coats than white.
For whatever reason, it seems most people lose the right side one.  I still can't fathom how mine was lost, and I blame theft.  The replacement is held in with a short bolt and nut.  If you want to test your dexterity and patience, try getting that nut on!
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

50 bucks! Geez, I was thinkin' at most maybe 20 bucks... :eek
When you consider you can buy the genuine painted part (from Japan) for under $80 AUD including shipping, asking $50 plus postage for a piece of unpainted plastic would be a big ask, in my opinion...  :popcorn

Something to consider is the time needed to create the design, and the number of re-trys it takes to get it right. Lots of trial and error to get it right. And of course you need to get hold of a good one, to take the design from..

I believe my mate has a scanner, and I still have both of mine. (Grabs hold of large piece of timber and refuses to let go).

I will have a chat with him and see what we might be able to come up with. Is this something that might be added to the shop?

You don't love your bike enough to buy her nice luxurious things!   :rofl

I do! Only the best for my baby...just ask Sue, she reckons I love my ST more than her...  :rofl
I even have a photo of my bike set as the wallpaper on my phone, much to Sue's disgust, as she reckons I should have a pic of her...   :whistle

Anyhow, getting back on topic, I just figure if, for example you paid $50 plus postage (which, knowing Australia Post, they would probably slug you
more than $10) for the 3D part and then you have to get it painted to match your bike then I reckon it would end up costing way more than the genuine part...  :popcorn

Thanks. I'll try that next oil change.
