Hi all,
Long time no speak !
For quite some time heir STrudel has had a problem with idling while warming up. When cold he would idle at approx 2000 rpm as expected, and when fully warm he would idle at around 1000 rpm, but during the intermediate stage when he was 'partly warm' he just wouldnt idle - he would choke and die unless I kept revving the throttle. This would generally last from about 2 minutes from starting to about 10 minutes from starting. After that he'd be fine, but it was really annoying.
So, this week I've had the lid off and had a poke around. I found that the 5-way connector was partly blocked so I cleaned it out. Very impressed to find that Ruth's stash of useful things included pipe cleaners! I also replaced the air filter. The idling problem seems to be fixed. Is this an expected symptom of a blocked 5-way?
Can anyone with more smarts than me explain exactly what this do-hickey does? I understand it's something to do with the vacuum from the throttle bodies but what does that mean?
Also, I found that the large hose attached to the rear of the air box had been blocked with a large ball bearing. I removed the offender, but does anyone have any idea regarding why it might have been blocked?
Thanks!
