So what did you - all get up to on Lizzy's public holiday? Good old Queen Lizzys Birthday - she's tops ain't she - public holiday so Sim can take the STeed out for the day. Do a bit of a reccy for the next next OZSTOC National when it comes to Tassie. See attached for route taken, all up 450km in 6 hours. Not quite 'on pace' for a Far ride - a few to many stops for: fish en chips, directions, mars bars, coffee, defrosting thos finger tips (gotto get one of those grip warmers - Couch!), but a top day - totally refreshed for the working week  . Hills, twisties, straights (to overtake the caravans) - I also got to try out my 'wet weather' ride techniques on 'Tassies east coast' due to some incessant drizzle, which brought a  :)  :)  :) to my dial. Only saw three police vehicles and they were all going the opposite way  . I might have been a little 'heavy' handed at times. Rating: X-L-nt

Good story.  Too blinking miserable here in Sunny Qld to ride.  Took Missus Biggles away overnight to a B&B for her birthday.  Weather only good for sleeping in.  You Taswegians can have your cold wet riding- I have no need to acclimatise to it.

Don't be too coy about Coppers going the opposite direction- the ticket before my last one was snagged out in the boonies by an innocent looking white fourby that turned out to have red and blue lights, to my cost.        :(

Quaintly, he flashed his headlights at me, and I was about to thank-wave him for the warning when he added the coloured lights to the scene.

I drove over and took the carbs out of an ST11 of Lionel. Going through them now.  Replacing coolant and vacuum hoses when it goes back together on the weekend.  Seem some only have free time on the weend, which must be limiting

We went to Whyalla to see my daughter and grand-daughter and their respective partners.

420km round trip, left home 9:30 am and kept speed to 90kph until it warmed up a little and gradually inceased to limit. Arrived at midday, stayed 'til 3:30, stopped of at supermarket and left Whyalla at 4:15. Wanted to get back home before it got to cold. Arrived back home 6:15pm Exceeded state limit a few times on way back, mainly Wilmington to Orroroo...lol

Patty and I used the weekend to ride from Sydney to Wingham (near Taree) on Saturday to visit my sister, and came back yesterday - 700 k's all up. Beautiful day for riding Saturday, not too bad for half the trip home yesterday (Sunday), then it pissistantly  rained on us as we rode down the F3. The Naxsax  trousers stood up well (that's for Tipsy ), and kept us dry where it counted.

Good on ya Sim.............I particularly like the run from Hamilton to Bothwell, it's one of my favourite little roads. :)

Heated grips are definately the go but you need to keep your hands on the grips, they cool off real quick if you take your hands off even for a few seconds.......I can't comment on heated vests as I haven't tried them but Casten seems to like them. I'm never cold enough when I ride to consider a heated vest. In winter I always wear just a tee shirt then a very light weight crew neck pure woolen jumper and of course my Touremaster Jacket which has a padded vest, and I find that keeps the top of my body warm enough. If the temp was to get lower than 2-3 degrees then I'd certainly be looking at adding thermal underwear. I also wear RJ Pants that have a waterproof liner and that keeps the wind off my legs. Also having wind deflectors that direct wind from my legs certainly helps to keep my legs warm. If I rode more often in the rain then I'd likely wear a heated vest as it always seems colder when your outer gear gets wet, even if it's waterproof..........but I avoid riding if it's raining. I've ridden in the rain many times but never by preference.

Believe it or not........we don't get very much rain on the Peninsular in Tassie, and when we do it's usually very light drizzle.

It's true Carsten......we get surprisingly little rain on the Peninsular. We've been here four and a half years now and I've had to buy water, 3000 gallons at a time, on 5 occasions in that time because we don't get sufficient rain to fill our water tanks, and we're very careful with how we use water. I have 2 x 5000 gallon + one 2000 gallon tank and they have only been filled on 2 occasions and I have a reasonably large catchment area (roof). Unless you have lived on the mainland, particularly Qld, then you don't really know what rain is!  They get more rain in 5 minutes than we get in an hour............it's true, I lived there long enough!! Anyway................it's a beautiful sunny day here today!!

Awesome Lap Sim!  Glad to see you threw in the all important Lake Leakes Rd to Swansea!

I took Mrs Diesel up to Cairns for the weekend and (amongst other things) went out to see the Great Barrier Reef in a semi sub viewing boat.





Last shot was taken at Port Douglas.

A great tropical FNQ seafood feed and much more for a great weekend! Thanks Liz!

I think it's the contrast with the charming lady that makes the bearded one look so scarey.  Or maybe judging from the colour tint, it's a frame out of Prometheus.

Good on ya Diesel, and Mrs Diesel of course :)...............I like Cairns and the run up to Port Douglas. I've done a bit of 4x4 touring up around there and through the Tablelands. I really like the tropics but Vicki has a real problem with the heat.

Good to see you both made good use of the long weekend.  a little more interesting than Bribie mate!!
