Rally dilemma
« on: February 20, 2013, 06:22:02 PM »
hi guys and girls,
i have a bit of a dilemma, to do with the rally this year.
my dilemma is, that my wife (una)has done something to her back, and it gives her a lot of pain, so a 9hr ride wont do her any favours,  so i have a few options to choose from,

option 1,  dont go to rally,  ( i dont want that )

option 2,  drive up in the car, !!!!!!!!

option 3,  put bike on trailer and bring it up, and at least  do the ride on saturday, i think she would manage that.

so i would like to hear what you guys think, and it may help me make my mind up, i have changed it a few times already in past few days.

Option 3 sounds like the best compromise but there's no rule that says you need to have the bike at any RTE or the Rally.

Ha! Ezy peazy!  If u can easily trailer the bike and the luv n kisses can manage the lunch ride out... Then that's the ONLY option!  If you have to stop more frequently than the group - then I'll darn well stop with yas myself and have a later lunch with you.
Your presence will undoubtedly be one of your fond memories of life with an ST.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Diesel

Concur with the others....So looking outside the box....(occupational hazard I guess) has the something injury to her back been investigated in depth ?? Combined Anti-Inflammatories medications and Physiotherapy could make the difference......even it is to make her more comfortable in the car for the 9 hours.

Cheers

Option 4.....

Rally's 3 weeks away.........make a decision then.

Sore backs are unpredictable......bad one week, perfect(well bearable) the next .

Good luck!

If I was in your situation, The priority would be my wife's wellbeing and comfort. If she was too sore and uncomfortable to go, I would not go. If you both go and your wife is suffering over the weekend, you both would just want it to stop and end and want to be home. My wife would want me to go and she would stay home, but I would always be worring about her over the weekend and not enjoy it. Love wins in the end, there will be other rallies. I am working away from home at the moment (1700klm away) and my wife is not well right now, and I feel bad and helpless not being able to help and comfort her.

Who cares if you have to take the car? Being there is the first things, and your wife enjoying things most important.  We are not pure bike snobs like some   :nahnah

I missed out on over 2 months riding due to the wife and her broken arm.  First things first, an even more important rule than arriving home safely (ie should you have gone in the first place).

Go to the library and see if you can find "Overcome neck and back pain' by a bloke called Kit Laughlin.
Doctor now at Canberra Uni or something.
Book is magic once you find the bit dealing with the problem.
Option 3 with air ticket if needed.
Time the flight right (be there when Carol lands) and there might be as lift to the rally site.
Never under estimate the predictability of stupidity.

Thanks Cooman for your care even though your wife is not well. Working away from home sucks big time, thought I would be ok being married 36yrs and thinking a break from the routine would be refreshing, but it's not!!! Miss family, friends and significant other big time. Have made some friends here but not the same without 'history'. can't just jump on a plane as time and money in short supply, but Skype is a lifeline and a makes it more bearable. Reaching the pointy end of retiring and just need to hang in there at this time. I know I'm ranting and venting but promise I will man up after this little rant, ha,ha. I'm based in Whyalla at the moment.

 :hijacked

I went to a one day training seminar that Kit ran in SA back in 1997.  His background was yoga and eastern medicine.   Prior to that date, I would be seriously laid up with terrible low back pain three or four times every year, with occasional stays in hospital.   By following the stretching and strengthening exercises that we were trained to do, my back problem is significantly better and I have not been bed ridden since.  I was significantly better from that very day, and I can highly reccomend his techniques.
