Hi Guys,
Took my bike in to have the mirror mounting bracket rewelded after an unfortunate 'sideways parking' misshap resulted in a broken mirror and some tupperware damage. Stripped the tupperware off to reveal the bent bit and having no resources to do the fix, rang my local bikeshop to organise repairs. Talked to the workshop guy and told him the job would only take a few minutes to do (i'm sure he's heard that before) as I had already stripped the necessary armour off and it was a minor fix. He asked me to bring the bike down and he would try to fit it in the next couple of days. When I brought it in (felt strange riding with all that plastic off) and showed him the job, he was most pleased that I had stripped the bike down for access to the repair that he told me he would fix it and there was no charge. Hadn't heard that comment for a very long time, can't even remember when.

Was nice to know that their are still people around that don't look at every opportunity to make a quick buck. Made the long walk home almost enjoyable.

The place is Bikes n Gear in Whyalla. The guy runs the workshop independently from the shop. Uses their facility and jobs get booked in through the shop after talking with him. His name is Malcolm, older guy from our generation. Shop wanted to know if I need to fill out a job card and I fobbed them off not knowing what the contractual arrangements were with the repairers. Didn't want to get Mal into trouble for not charging. The shop is ok. They have plenty of merchandise and oils and lubes and will order parts when required. I am waiting for a right engine cover at the moment, has been ordered for about 4 weeks and is expected next week. Seems a little long to me, but Whyalla is pretty isolated and I'm sure I saw Cob & Co go through the other day. They mainly cater for the dirt bike generation, and their's plenty of dirt out here.

Sounds like a top bloke.  You'd hafta give him a Corona some time.  If he was originally talking weeks top get to it, he must get a fair bit of work.
Bit out of my way, even going to Middleton.  Let's know when he moves to Queensland.
